I love all your reviews, the longer the better. Unfortunately I will not be able to read many of the books you recommended, as I live in South Africa and only read library books. The libraries do take suggestions but nine out of ten they don't have the budget to buy them and often it takes many months for new releases to get to SA. Nonetheless, listening to you always makes me happy😁

Thanks for putting my thoughts about In Defence of the Act so concisely! 😂 I wanted to give it 5 stars because i flew through it but the writing and the ending let me down a bit.

I preferred the first half of "And then she fell" as well. I struggled with the ending unfortunately, but I was loving the first part.

Have you read Actress by Anne Enright? I’ve recently finished it and would love to hear your thoughts on it. It is focussed on a mother/daughter relationship and has slice of life and coming of age type vibes so it might be something you enjoy.

I agree with everything you said about The List of Suspicious Things, I didn’t like the event at the end and thought it was unnecessary.

Agree with you 100% about In Defence of the Act. The ending was the weakest and felt like the author felt pressured to tie up all the themes... The childhood scene near the beginning when she was carrying the cup of tea up the stairs was very well done I thought... the writing kind of reminded me of stuff like Nick Hornby's Juliet Naked or Mark Haddon. Also enjoyed reading about the narrator's university years. I still need to read Sarah Perry... have The Essex Serpent on my tbr shelf. may get to that this summer now lol.

Yes, the childhood cup of tea scene was great! The memoir I mentioned is by a different Sarah Perry to the author of The Essex Serpent which does make things a bit confusing, hah

Is recommend 'the best catholics in the world' that looks into the abuses of the church in Ireland in non graphic way and why the state and people were either complient or didn't do anything.
