I’m 42 minutes in, and I have to say I am so grateful that you both had this conversation for us. I had been trying to understand these concepts for a while, and Dr Edward does such a fantastic job of presenting all concepts without a bias! Great interviewing skills as well!

Hmm. In my opinion (this is Shoaib) I think Mutazilites were more likely weak occasionalists. Everything is under the control of God except the free will of humans :)

@@feiisp2343 Interesting. Is that view pretty the same view as the Ash'ari view? Or did the Ash'aris believe that free will is also caused/created/under the control of God? I always thought that the Mu'talizah view was that God causes everything to exist, but the actions of humans are completely up to them and God has no control over actions?

@@thetwelvers3202 - that is the debate. On the one hand it is claimed that God controls everything but on the other hand they suggest the theory of kasb.
