the thing about Meredith Monk that has always been amazing about her is that in a way she, philip glass, steve reich are doing the same kind of music, where they are doing it with classical instruments, she is doing it with vocals and sometimes dance and multimedia as well which although it hasn't made her as much money or as much of a household name as philip glass, she is still out there pushing the envelope of the avant garde of music, dance, and voice and such and for that i am thankful that we still have a true avant garde improviser and innovater such as Meredith Monk to lead us forward culturally!

She's so lovely, at the end, you can see how grateful she is for the public. She's pure love, so honest. I get REALLY inspired when i hear her music, her music helps me a lot, in EVERYTHING. No words to describe, she's an amazing woman.

I had the pleasure to see her live in the mid 80s at a tiny venue in Northampton, MA. singing some of these and earlier pieces. She was simply there, singing, totally exposed and open, aware of us but singing at a very personal level. I had rarely experienced such a totally honest and direct communication.

Don't miss "Traveling Companions" at 1:08:30 here, a musical highlight of "Atlas", rarely viewed. This opera got its full production for I don't know, less than a dozen times in total, between Houston and Brooklyn. Good news is there is another production in the works. Kate Geissinger, you rock!

I stumbled across “turtle dreams” one night when I was stoned as hell. Never would’ve thought I would enjoy stuff like this and actually love it. Her music just is like satisfying to my brain. I love all the weirdness about it lol.

Something always so yearning and pure and deep and primal and magical about her work. We met her recently for a moment and is she is just as down to earth and lovely as anyone you've ever met.

what a great fusion of primitivism and modern instruments... love how she is very close her primitve side, we all carry this on our genes, such a shame some people cant intake this and let it flow on their own being

Did the second singer drop the pitch in hocket? Or was it just my imagination? It seemed like Meredith kept the pitch though.

Yes, and there is no more grateful thing than using our voice to express ourselves, our ancestral instrument.

Yes, of course. Not just art, but amazing art.

if she's trying to make animal sounds, she's failing. I sounds like what loonies do when nobody sees them.
@KlavierEum7 жыл бұрын
She's trying to express something which can be expressed only by her vocalization. If you don't like this, that's ok. You may think this is a failure, but I don't think so. I've listened to her music since 1989 and she is the most amazing vocalist to me.
