I can see where she’s coming from with the manipulative part though. If your partner has clearly told you NO to marriage, and then you decide to go for a public proposal (involving kids and everything), it’s easy to see that as being unintentionally manipulative, since it’s hard to say no in that situation. That's the thing. During the pandemic, everything that they could do was being domestic. Now that it's "over" they could go back to normal life. We didn't saw MerDer's life fall into domesticity, or Bailey and Ben's marriage settle down (actually the opposite, Bailey became chief and Ben became a firefighter), so, why would AmeLink end up domestic? If Link likes so much the domestic life, he can settle down, not expecting Amelia to do it with him, even when married. For God's sake, Derek went to Washington and Mer stayed in Seattle, and their marriage didn't fall apart (ok, he died after, but anyway), even though he expected that Mer would go with him, she stood up and didn't settle down (she didn't have to repeat Callie's mistake)

After Bailey was born they had 2 children, they had a lot more domesticity, both of them had to give up a lot in work, research and surgery and none of them wanted to do it. Derek promised he will take a step back for a year so Meredith will be able to do research and make progress as an attending but of course, he broke the promise about 2 minutes after and they fought ALL THE TIME about it. Eventually Meredith was the one who had to give up(because the douche believed his carrer was more important than her's..) When he decided that his project with the president was more important than her and their family he left to D.C and she was left alone with 2 very young children, was exhausted all the time, missed surgeries, forgot to meet the nanny that she hired because he left(did I mentioned she was exhausted?) And for a brief moment she sympathized with a mother who threw herself off a bridge with her kids, said that maybe it was because she was alone and too tired to do everything by herself. Meredith and Derek are *the* example of what can happen when you expand your family without having a proper conversation about the outcomes of this expansion. I am disappointed in the writing team when it comes to Amelia I feel like they are not being fair with this character. I've watched this show from the beginning and I've always believed in how characters grow and we have seen how much Amelia has grown and yet every time they want to end a relationship it's always kids or marriage. This is not a problem I thought she'd have with Link because during last season they talked about it and agreed not to rush things because he also had his issues with marriage because of his parents so it makes no sense that all of a sudden end of the season he is so desperate to marry her that he is willing to lose her after everything they have been through that this will be the hill he is willing to die on doesn't feel real or true to the Characters just feels like the writers were rushing to end this relationship before the start of this season so they could give her a new love interest and as they always do they will bring someone new Into Amelia's life too fast like this new Doctor Kai and make Link and her relationship feel like it didn't matter. The way she seems so over him already just feels wrong. We were made to believe that this was it for them that they would be endgame but she is behaving like it meant nothing. It's really disappointing I hope the writers do better. With everything she went through with Owen and the kids thing it's just hard to believe that she would just be this way about Link. This actually makes me sad. I hope the long distance relationship she has with the next doctor will be what she wants. I hope one day they will give Amelia the good things she deserves. I hope. As a die hard fan who will keep watching even when it makes me sad I will keep watching and I will keep hoping

@mitsukai71923 жыл бұрын
I agree; it's all the writers. Amelia's reasoning here makes sense, and even her saying no to the proposal makes sense, but the attitude that it didn't matter doesn't line up with the last season. They seemed to be setting it up so that she and Link could compromise/make things work. Maybe he has to learn to accept her for who she is and what she wants, but I feel like the writing has been trying to do all these things in a messy way. My one hope is that they don't make her pull away from raising Scout; he's her son, that isn't fair to him.

He tried to propose and she turned it down but said that marriage is an option for them but she didn't want the proposal to feel forced. That's why Link waited a while before he proposed again so it felt more natural. Up until the proposal at Maggie's wedding Amelia never told Link that she had changed her mind about being open to marriage, she only told people at her meetings. When he proposed he had no idea she had changed her mind so he was blindsided by her answer. Now, he is probably feeling sad and rejected because she said she was open to marriage and now is saying she isn't but she hasn't given him any reason for the change of heart. Who wouldn't find that upsetting? Having said that, if he really wants to get married and have more children he should move on and find someone who wants what he wants and who uses open communication in an effort to try and avoid a situation like this happening again.

I feel like people forget she was mentally abused by her family. Turned the black sheep because of drugs. And even in the moment where she was trying and asking for help, her family did nothing. They didnt even want to come to her and Owens wedding. When you don't have love growing up, its hard to find it within yourself, and you just try to make other people happy. You fake it. She might have dabbled in getting married and having kids, but some where deep down it didn't feel right to her. The pandemic forced her into the situation she didn't want, but she went along because as she said, who could hurt such a nice guy. She is finally growing up and learning her boundaries.

A public proposal done without thr consent of yout partner, catching them off guard and in a situation where saying no is difficult is manipulative and gaslighty even if not intentional. Especially when your partner has explicitly said they have zero interest in marriage. And even if some time has passed since the conversation it doesn't hurt to check in and ask them atleast what their views are before ambushing them with a proposal in someone else's wedding (which is gross in any situation). I am glad Amelia stood her ground and didn't cave in to link's incessant demand to have his way and being condescending af towards her wish of not wanting to be married. Thr constant proposing despite her saying no and it seriously affecting her addiction and link not paying heed to this is seriously very concerning. Toxic positivity is just as bad if you think about it. What he wanted was making her spiral and wanting to fall of the wagon and she doesn't have to explicitly state it. Like he should understand or try to talk to her about it. They were stuck in a house together for fucks sake

Realistically I feel like Link is the one that needs to examine why marriage is a priority for him. He loves her, it's clear. But his conversation with Teddy made it seem that the idea of "unmarried" was a detriment to their child. Even though they were in a committed relationship prior. He also knew what he was doing when he ignored her saying no. He needs to seriously examine why he wants to get married. Because "it's the next step in a relationship" or "it's what people do" is not a valid answer. Sorry to break it to him but marrying her won't just make you guys a great healthy couple with the perfect domestic life. Realistically (apart from any religious beliefs people have attached to marriage which are not shown to be a factor here) marriage is a legally binding status that gives you legal rights. Why is she the one that have to adapt to what he wants? Why is she the one being blamed, when he made it very clear he wasn't willing to give up what he wanted either? He wants a bunch of kids and marriage. She doesn't want a bunch of kids and marriage. And everyone acts like she is the bad person for not giving him what he wants, when in reality neither of them should give up on their needs. They don't match, the lives they want don't match. I see on a daily basis little children/teenagers coming into hospital with suicide attempts/self harm etc. Why? Becuase they had a bad upbringing thanks to their selfish parents who had sex and then had a child but did not want responsibilities for it. Marriage is a union between a man and woman that is used to bring a child into the world in a stable way. Once you have destoryed the institute of marriage (which has already happened in the west), then await for the collapse of society which is made up of smaller units called a 'family'. Just like Rome fell; the West is falling, but it doesn't notice because it is still too high in the sky, but the collapse is occuring as we speak
