Also btw it's an original anime created by the director (who also did Free!, Banana Fish, and Sk8) and writer (who did series composition for Blue Lock, Ranking of Kings, Haikyuu, Fruits Basket, Promised Neverland, and more). Plus the character designer/animation director worked on Death Note, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Mushishi. Such a randomly stacked lineup working on this.

I just realized Arajin's name is similar to Aladdin the way it's pronounced... this whole show has an Arabian vibe with the Honki people/Jins and making wishes. That's why it didn't look Japanese pretty sure they were going for the Arabian esthetic.

Aladdin is also supposedly Chinese in the original (although he is clearly Middle Eastern, Xinjiang and other muslim populated areas in China were still Buddhist when the story was written), which is why in this anime the main Character mom owns a Chinese restaurant.

Just saw the thumbnail of your vid and at first I was like, "I might check out your reaction", and my oh my this episode and anime itself looks really promising! Got me searching foe the OP and ED full versions and will have to watch the eps myself. Oh and based from what I see so far, the world seems to be a fusion of Arab (middle east) and Japan which is awesome. Plus the title font is written close to how arabic letters are formed. From what we saw from their flashback: The MC and the best friend used to train together all the time. The best friend looked up to the MC and thought he was strong and cool. One day some older dudes come and beat up the best friend. The MC saw the whole beat down while hidden behind a tree. The MC was too scared and cowardly to help his friend. So now that they have reunited again, the best friend still thinks highly of the MC and believes that he is strong. He dosen't know that the MC didn't help him that day he got jumped by the older dudes. The MC feels guilt over this, and dosen't want the best friend to think highly of him, because he knows that he is a fraud and dosen't deserve a friend like him.
