Well done Mergim 😊 It’s always good to ask the guards/locals. If I were you I would buy the beep card at any LRT n MRT stations for 30 pesos. It’s a reloadable contactless smart card that allows you to pay on trains, buses, and selected convenient stores. No need for cash or hunt for coins to pay at the cashier. Just use your beep card. However it expires in 4 years.

When going any long distance from one end of Manila to the other, the MRT, LRT1, and LRT2 lines are faster and more reliable between 6am and 10pm. The other option is the EDSA Carousel buses but some don't have stops at certain stations so you would have to walk kilometer-long distances sometimes. Just ask the security guards for the best directions where to go. They are given briefings on the vicinity and the various transport options.

Hi Mergim! Me and my family from Davao recently stayed in Manila the previous week, and we have attempted to take the MRT/LRT from our condo in Sta. Mesa to BGC. We started from the V. Mapa station in Line 2 across SM City Sta. Mesa, then alighting in Recto, transferring towards Doroteo Jose in Line 1 then heading to EDSA station, then transferring again to Line 3 to Taft station, then alighting at Guadalupe station, and taking the modern jeepney to BGC. It was a grueling 1 hour and 30 minutes of walking and climbing stairs just to reach BGC. Worth the adventure though and experiencing all the commuter train lines in the metro. Thanks for sharing your experience too!

MRT/LRT aren't as bad during non rush hour times/Sundays, that whole MRT line is Edsa, if you came from the Pasay station and going to Guadalupe, you're going from southern Metro Manila to the North. It seems you prefer getting off in Guadalupe rather than Ayala, personally I prefer Ayala when going to BGC, maybe where you live is closer to that route you took. You're really exploring the capital, whereas it was mostly the provinces in the past, you're really adapting.
@Noe-ev8ng Жыл бұрын
Same I personally prefer taking a bus going to BGC fron Ayala too
@jcasa12 Жыл бұрын
You took the guadalupe route to really show the trasport system. In your previous vlogs you had taken the ayala route to bgc. Metro manila public transport can be exhausting , unconfortable and over crowded at times but it can take you up to the door step or very close to your destination, with tricycles, pedicabs and motor bikes.
@KeonPH Жыл бұрын
To foreigners, using these mode of public transportation in Manila will be quite an adventure and experience for them. But if you're a local working in Metro Manila or a student commuter, this is hell on earth. Daily commuting will take a toll on you. 😢

Recognizing transport hubs goes a long way in navigating Metro Manila via public transport. Guadalupe itself is an example of the hub, as it has access via edsa for the Bus and MRT 1, and transport terminals to Taguig, Manila(via JP rizal to Taft, or Gil Puyat) and Pateros. Gil Puyat intersection + LRT station grants access to Baclaran and Quiapo or Divisoria and beyond ,via Taft Ave, and also some provincial bus terminals if you want to go to the southern provinces via Bus. Recto/Doroteo Jose grants access to both LRT 1 and LRT 3, as well as provincial buses going north. Cubao/Araneta also provides the same options this time intersecting with LRT 3 and LRT 2. These are just a few examples, as many recorgnized stops i.e. places listed on the buses and jeepney are also hubs or convegence points to different parts of Metro Manila, plut it helps that they are not scheduled stops due to deregulation of transport franchises...

@nightwing4065 Жыл бұрын
Again, this shows how inefficient the current public transport system in Metro Manila. You have to walk a long way to LRT 1 Carriedo station, get off at EDSA station to hop to the MRT line to get to Ayala or Guadalupe which is near BGC. Then there's another Jeepney or bus ride just to get to BGC. There are ongoing projects like the Metro Manila Subway, but that won't be completely operational 'til 2029. 😓
@edgarnapiza4667 Жыл бұрын
I think he came from Binondo so It’s a long walk via Escolta unless he was just near LRT Carriedo. Same in Japan or Singapore, it’s a more on walking to find the station and sometimes confusing. A little improvement as some trains in LRT1 are now brand new like trains coaches in Singapore. Maybe what needs to be improved is the train stations. Then the MRT needs new trains. The connecting bridge in LRT1 to LRT2 are now rehabilitated with design. What needs to be improved is the MRT train stations and the connecting bridge in LRT1 and MRT.
@ryutoshikimori Жыл бұрын
thanks for this Mergin! It's been ages since I last rode LRT and MRT since I bought a motorcycle to travel around manila and I'm honestly surprised with the improvement of the public transport specially during rush hour. I used to take around 2-3 hrs to get home during rush hours that I usually render overtime to avoid the traffic. It's great to see that the public transportation improved so much that people wouldn't go through hell that we used to experience pre pandemic.

If you mean like what jeeps to take if you want to go from one end of metro manila to the other, that could be a handful to remember for most people, since those jeeps have different routes and such. If you mean just in general, taking the train during non-rush hours is usually the best option. Taking any public transpo during rush hour is just something I do not wish on anyone.
@gmsimon Жыл бұрын
@your route: Alternatively, from EDSA/Taft MRT station, you could've gotten off Ayala station and rode the BGC buses that has an East and West BGC route. Less walking on your part since the bus terminal is directly below the Ayala MRT station.

Most Filipinos don't want to undergo the hassles of transportation and transferring from one transportation to another. That is why you will hear most saying why not take a taxi or a grab instead. Less hussle and less worries. You just sit and relax and pay. Hehe. At most, you need to take 2-3 transportation to get from your point A to your point B. There is no such direct transportation to your exact destination here in manila. Ask the regular worker/commuters. Not the rich or middle class who can always afford to take a grab with their budgets. Hehehe

Hey Mergim, it would be best if you tried the EDSA Carousel bus (PH version of BRT system, that exclusive lane in the middle along EDSA), it's even faster than MRT. It travels the entire EDSA from Monumento in Caloocan to PITX Terminal in Paranaque, which is around 45 km. one way, the going back like a Carousel. That must be exciting, very fast during rush hours, very organized as well. Please, can't wait to see it.
