Why do we use Shimano's EP801 drive unit? And how can you get the best performance from it?

I have recently purchased a e160 700se with the ep6 motor. Where can I get detailed info for this please? Eg, maximum watts at full assist. Also is there anyway I can fit a range extender to the 630 battery as the range is not good if your rinsing it (22 miles in boost)
