Hi! Honestly, you're a good teacher because you choose useful topics, idioms and words to improve our English and even a beginner can understand your explanation easily. Keep making more videos like that! In 1985, I was hired based on my skills because I succeeded in an exam( writing and oral) and then an interview with four persons but in my country, there are people they could be hired based on his family, citizenship...etc. You can find meritocracy, bureaucracy...etc it depends on the type of job or the office or the factory you need to work in. Take care!

Hey Mark, initially, a few years ago, I started watching your videos because you were Canadian, and I was living here, but now I have to confess that I've been watching them just because you easy-going manner to teach English. I never get bored to listen to you! Unfortunately, I'm not doing well because I have a refused work permit, so I'll leave Canada soon 😢😢 Meritocracy is not a thing, sadly. On the other hand, beuracracy is present everywhere... Thanks for your videos ❤❤

Hello Mark🖐️ I've been watching your videos for a few years, may be more, not because of your appearance or something like that, believe me. Your teaching is helpful and out of the ordinary. The bottom line is that you do teach and explane such things that I don't know or I didn't know, or simply didn't come across on any other KZbin channels and I thank you for this. Here's an idiom. "Preaching to the choir", where l happen to hear in some movie. Thanks to you end your detailed explanations, l totally got what a character in that movie had meant by saying this idiom to the other person. Many thanks.

Really love this 'walkie-talkie' style of your teaching, Mark! And I believe each county/nation has its own ways of doing everyday things and a system that is probably best suited to its needs. A pity there's just one exclusive nation on the planet that can give a dog a bad name and then hang it 😂

TQ for braving the cold and damp to teach this difficult and sensitive topic. I think 'competence' is for general ability whereas 'competency' pertains to ability in performing a specific task. (I may be wrong.) SG is a multi-racial society; meritocracy is instrumental to promoting racial harmony. Having said that, I must add that our last presidential election was reserved for a particular race unrepresented in the office for a long time. Btw, meritocracy in our government positions encompasses both competence and character.

Hey Mark! Well, meritocracy is great but not appropriate in now-a-days world! For example, I'd like to support you with PayPal, but now I'm blocked, just because I have Russian identity? Why??? As you know me from all my the previous comments I' not responsible of what all the mad rulers of this world do, am I? I cannot do anything, as well as you can't, can you? Just look to Israel - is all Palestine people must be deleted from all banking? Some terrorists start the war, and , "the west" will claim guilty all of Palestine's? So why do they claim guilty all the Russians? Can you tell?

Before Fidel Castro a few Ameriican billionaires bought their wonderful beaches and all was private , now cubans can enjoy their own beaches. Money is all? Maybe not. Before you said a few things that your land is belonging to the most richer man in the world , this british monarchy. This isn't normal

We like to hear your talks and to see you dear, but you judge that too fast . Look how China changed its economy with its politics. They have got the best of any system and m8xed together and let see how far they went now,. For sure we can't be all the same but for sure in our system the ones who work are harder aren't paid for it but all the contrary. There is much to talk on that. You talked about Cuba and other countries around at least all kids go to school there and they export doctors to Africa thats better as selling weapons. They got the guts to stand on for their country maybe poor but with dignity,
