Just ordered a Merkur progress 5000 after years of spending money on Gillette fuzion 5 and still getting poor results, I have now invested on classic safety razors. I hope it will give me closer shave in cheaper money!

Awesome video - what is the best way to figure out what the best setting is for you using an adjustable razor? I have sensitive skin and like my razors on the mild side. Thanks

From what I understand that the larger the blade gap, the more aggressively it cuts. Here's some guy's quote on a different video: "For anyone interested in one of these adjustable razors -- the blade gap range for the Merkur Progress is 0.38mm to 0.94mm, while the blade gap range for the Merkur Futur is 1.12mm to 1.65mm. It's too bad the aggressiveness of these razors isn't promoted on their packaging to help one get a razor that will best suit them -- instead of buying the razor based solely on looks thinking everything else is equal. The Parker Variant and Rockwell 6S/6C are both similar in aggression to the Merkur Progress. The blade gap for a Merkur 34C HD is 0.71mm, while the blade gap for the Edwin Jagger is 0.76mm"

I too have sensitive skin so I ordered the progress short handle, let's see how it turns out. You might want to check out leafshave products, haven't tried them but they're marketed for sensitive skin

Wish Merkur would release a stainless steel variant. Not a select few but a new line. Make it happen

Love my Merkur slant, just wish they would offer their razors in brass and/or stainless steel. Zamak razors just don't last, no matter how they're maintained.

Nice video! Is there any difference in aggressiveness between the 33c and the 34c? Which one would be the choice for an absolute beginner?

Pitty, that I've seen this question a year later. But about your question for 33 C and 34 C razors. Those are actually, variants of the same razor! The difference is that 33c it's three piece as 34c it's a two piece! So, there are two answers before to your question, but both suggesting the wrong razor to you! A three piece razor it's more easy to maintenance and keep it clean actually, that mean less danger, to have defects over the years such as lose of chrome coat! "Both" are great for a begginer anyway! Anyway after a year there is no meaning anymore :)

If you're going to sell them, learn how to say it. It,s NOT "mer-ker" it is pronounced "mare-kor" which is German for "mercury".

Just for the sake of accuracy: it's pronounced MARE-coor. German name, german pronunciation.
