I got tired of bumps and expense. I got a Feather all stainless. I wanted the cute box and stand.. I was put off by the price, but I heard if you get bumps easy get this.. so I did.. It's just so amazing. I have owned it 6 months now. No cuts and and no more ingrown hairs. I shave my legs and bikini area and it feels totally comfortable. I can't believe something so simple is so perfect. I would collect razors, but I figure why. I bet every other product will disappoint in comparison. I know going from cartridge to this is so superior. Particularly with the blades feather makes. However, voshkod is a close second.

Emperor is my everyday use razor. I went with the Augustus, really only bc it had the longer handle on it and I believe is even a bit heavier than the Meiji. I use the aggressive side for my first pass WTG shave and the milder side for my second pass ATG shave. Color scheme is really interesting and a nice change up from your standard plain chrome looking safety razor.

I've tried the Rockwell 6S, not a fan at all. PITA to replace the pieces and I was concerned about keeping track of them. Bough a Parker Variant instead, which has infinite adjustments built in and super happy with it. In fact, I own two. One in the shower for body, the other for face use and travel. I will never get a non-adjustable razor, due to flexibility. These things are all cheap in the grand scheme of things - unless you start collecting them ;)

Great video Mark!!!! I have the Rex Ambassador, and it’s one the best razors I have. It shaves incredibly well on all settings. Some people don’t get along with them, but I’ve had the multiple iterations of the Pearl Flexi, and it shaves multiple times better than it. I also love the Progress, personally one of my favorite adjustable razors. The Rockwell 6s and 6C for me have been arguably the smoothest razor I’ve owned the past 5+ years until the Karve came out, so it’s a staple in my den. The Meiji is an incredible choice for me for quick as well, especially for the price. The Henson razor punches way above its pay grade and takes down a good amount of hair really well, and it’s super smooth. I’ve even used it as a head shaver, and it’s terrific! The Gamechanger to me is the best pound for pound DE razor out there in the world of wet shaving. It’s stainless steel, choice of handles, smooth, different base plates, and a reliable predictable shave. I have mine with the Titanium handle, and it’s so smooth!!!! I haven’t used the Meta-4 yet, but I’ve heard marvelous things about it. Have a wonderful day and stay safe!!!!

@@MarkSzorady If you take apart the futur keep in mind it has to go back a certain way, the part that holds the blade has text written on the ends one side says made in Germany and the other says Merkur. Make sure the part that says Made in Germany is facing to your right and the bottom part that has the adjustment line are facing you. If you don’t put it back together this way the razor will not completely seat when you bring it to one. Also when taking it apart set it to 6 and then push down and turn the bottom handle counter clockwise to remove. Hope this helps.

Peter, thanks very much for the kind words.:) I sincerely appreciate it.:) The Pearl Flexi V4 has been on my radar. I know that early on it had some hiccups. I failed to mention that, although the price of the Envoy is $125.00, Razor Emporium was running a sale at the time I purchased. They offered 10% off. So, I saved $12.50. Hey Mark! Great video and you spoke about some great razors. If you think those razors are good, just wait until you try a Karve or a Timeless SS razor :) The Karve is sort of like the Rockwell as it has base plates that vary in blade gap and blade exposure. It truly is a "gamechanger" Haha. I just had a great shave this morning with my Karve and the C plate and Clubguy in CK6. And I think it's around 75-80 USD for the razor and additional base plates are sold for 25 USD each so it's very affordable and very fairly priced for what you get. If you get one of these razors, I think you'll love it so much it would be hard to put it down. And timeless razors are premium razors in my opinion. If it wasn't for my Karve, my timeless would probably be my go to razor for every single shave. Top notch in quality and performance. Excellent video and I hope you enjoy your journey through more premium razor options that are available. :)
@MarkSzorady3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tman2217.:) I've heard some great things aobut boh these razors. I'd probably lean towards the Karve due to the changeable base plates. Which one would you recommend that would give a mild shave akin to the Muhle R89 or similar?
@Tman22173 жыл бұрын
@@MarkSzorady Hi Mark, while I haven't used either of those razors, I would suggest 2 base plates for you, one, for that smooth mild shave would be the B base plate, and the other for a smooth but slightly more efficient shave would be the C plate. I have both and I must admit that I find the B plate to be too mild for me so I mostly use the C which is the first plate that has positive blade exposure. Not sure of the blade gap though, could be somwhere like 0.75mm or something.... I'd have to check the site to be 100% on that. The Karve is a wonderful razor and I'm sure it would easily make your top 3 list of favorite razors.

Another great video Mark. The Meiji from Vikings Blade, are the butterfly doors precise and stay locked during the shave? I had the Crusader, and didn’t care for that razor due to that issue. I like the heft of the Meiji and would consider a butterfly adjustable again. Maybe it’s the price point issue as the Crusader is in a lower end price point?
@MarkSzorady3 жыл бұрын
Mark, yes to all your questions. I've not had a problem with the doors loosening during the shave. However, I tend to check the razor throughout my shave. I make sure the doors are closed on a TTO, and I make sure a 3-piece is secure. it's become a habit because I have had the experience of a razor head loosening up. It's rare, but it has happened to me.

But that's usually the case regardless of the razor used with the exception of the very mild ones. think Merkur 34C or the iKon X3 Slant. I'm due for a head shave, so I'll give it a go and report back.:)
@MarkSzorady3 жыл бұрын
ageofaqu, I was due for a head shave so did one this evening (Friday evening) with the Envoy and a Super Iridium razor blade. The Envoy did a wonderful job. Smooth and close with enough blade feel to keep me on target with my technique. I made sure to use a light touch throughout. I did not rush the process. I also took my time and used a light touch when it came to shaving the top of the head where the skin becomes thinner. After two passes, the shave was done. Usually, I need to do a touchup after the second pass. I did go through the motions of doing a touch up, but very little was needed. Bottom line, The Envoy is one of the better razors for me for doing ahead shave. However, I built up a substantial and protective lather from PAA CK-6 soap and the Cube pre-shave. I took my time ,lightened up my touch, and let the weight of the razor do al the work. A wonderful smooth result. This razor head shave deserves a video review.:)

HI Great video and new subscriber. Question: are any of these Made in the USA?
@ricker76er9 ай бұрын
I think the Henson, Rex supply, and rockwell might be, but I’m not entirely sure. The razorocks are made in Canada. Parkers are made in India. Merkurs are made in Germany. I believe the VB razors are made in Asia. Not sure about the rest.

Great video and information, quit liking your channel. I too have more on the side of sensitive skin and am looking for a milder and smoother shave than my Merkur 34C. Also I have tried numerous blades. Cheers.

Are you willing to sell the Henson Medium Razor? I've been wanting to buy one as a college student graduate. A bit skeptical since I never used a razor like Henson. Despite everything, I will get the Rockwell 6s in Black. :)

Hi William. Unfortunaely, it's not faor sale. I'd like to work with the Medium a little more for when I have four day beard growth, especially for future videos. I've not yet done one this extreme and I'm looking forward to doing it at some point down the road.:)

There have been minor internal revisions made to the Merkur Progress over the years. These will not be noticeable to the shaver. It simply means that not all parts are interchangeable from 1955 to now. It is worth noting that they come in long and short handled versions. Because the head is made of zamak, I would not regard this as a "lifetime" razor. It will last many years with care, but if the finish fails, it cannot be readily refinished.
@MarkSzorady3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Iver Mec-Tin. I've heard this regarding the plating of Zamak. But the razor head looks so incredibly chromed, I'd hope it's lat a good long time. Perhaps not lifetime in the same was as a stainless steel razor. Only time will tell, as the saying goes. I appreciate the background information on the Progress.

Not to be That Guy but... Yes these razors are designed and built well, with the bells and whistles and they do their job well. Then again, For what these razors cost, they'd better! By the same token, as the Sharpologist once observed, safety razors have been around so long and the design and manufacturing so refined, that it's quite difficult to make a truly bad razor.

Im new in safety razor. I like shaving bald. Head and face. The disposable ones .gives me irritation. Which one you recommend me.
@MarkSzorady2 жыл бұрын
Julio, any of the mild razors would be a good start. If you are unsure, try and adjustable as you can turn it down to as mild settings as needed. the Rockwell is great with all it's different plates and I like the Vikings Blade adjustable razors. On the affordable end, the Edwin Jagger DE89 is a good pick for both head and face. I like the Q Brothers as well. It's a clone of the Muhle R89 and gives you a bit of savings. also, a razor not discussed when I made this video is the Supply SE single Edge Injector razor. an exception razor for both head and face and its NickStop technology really worked for me.

im my opinion merkur futur is overpriced , there are copies almost same quality starting from 13 dollar , for that price I bought 4 razors , all same construction, one chrome, other black and the third satin silver finish , ( qshave and ming shi 2000 ) the fourth razor is the one with magnetic top ( river lake ) with this one it is easy to go under the nose, rockwell 6C for me the best of all , I use base plate 2, also rockwell R1 TTO wonderful razors , I had a qshave parthenon adjustable razor , really very very aggressive even in level 1, I had to give it away , don't understand which stupid engineer did design such a lousy razor , I asked to santa claus to send me a merkur progress razor haha ( santa for me is amazon , in Mexico excellent service ,haha ), I just received a ming shi 3000 adjustable razor , will use it tomorrow , looks like my gillette slim adjustable from the 1950, very nice resume of your recommended razors , did like it very much .

Thanks, Robert.:) I appreciate all your input and experiences with the various razors you have.:) As I recall, my Futur was a used razor purchase. the original owner used it once and decided to sell. So, fortunately, I didn't pay full price. However, one main difference between the Futur and the its clones is the weight. The Futur has more heft which, for some, is an added benefit.:)
