As I listen to Bonnie & Merle sing their songs, I think of all the stories our Heroes have shared with us about the heartaches, pain & love stories. They told us many times of what they did, & what not to do, but we didn't listen & still don't. Our Heroes are slowly going away & good Country Music is going away with it. Your "Cheatin' Heart" is played at every dance, every night of the week & will be heard forever., but today's # 1 won't be heard after next week, ever again..... what does that say to you...? I'll bet Bonnie & Merle have created tears in a million or more eyes, from their renditions of LOVE & it's many facets... Hang onto our Country Music tightly, don't let it slip away.... Thank You Bonnie & Merle...

I was Lucy enough to see them & meet them in person in SPARKS, Nevada at The Nugget. They were so gracious & nice. Talked to us for about 10 minutes & thanked us for coming to their show...that was in 1969. Never forgot. He loved her even to the end...even though not married & she had alzheimers...they still had that connection from many years ago...& she helped raise his children & they loved her.ir was hard for Merle to see her with alzheimers ...saw an interview he did after she died. Very emotional.

He was heartbroken when he went to visit her in the nursing home and didn’t really recognize him and said come to my room I want to show you something and above her bed was a giant poster of a young handsome Merle. Ah that smile and that way he raised and rolled that one brow. When he told the story at the end he was so choked up with a lone tearin his eye. Bet they are singing together for God now.♥️🙏🏼🙏🏼

Torgny Fornstedt Yes, it's too sad...and Bonnie seemed to cry here when she sings that "wish we could go back again to days that used to be...we fought a lot but even then I knew you cared for me." Do you think the lyrics of this song was written for Bonnie & Merle based on their true to life story since the two were coupled and after divorced they are still together--partnered in the band?

You know, I’ve often wondered... did Buck and Merle make Bonnie a household name back in the day... or did they actually prevent her from being a Star in her own right on her own? I’ve recently seen clips of her back in her very early years and she was very pretty and actually sang well. I mean, something had to attract both of these legendary stars (before they were famous) to her🤔
@jerrybrownell36332 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you remember but back in 1959 a disc jockey name Tommy McDonald wrote and recorded a song under the name Tommy Dee called " Three Stars" a tribute to Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper. The back up singers were Carole Kay & The Teenaires. Then in 1963 Tommy Dee wrote a song called "Missing On A Mountain" a tribute to Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. Bonnie Owens who was married to Buck Owens at the time sang the back up vocals. You can hear both songs here on KZbin.

Buck first met Bonnie Campbell in Mesa, Arizona when they were both young and looking to start a music career. Buck had been playing in a local country band. One day Bonnie showed up to rehearse and he was surprised that she knew how to sing. He wasn't aware she was a singer. They married in Arizona in 1948, separated by 1951 but stayed friends forever and helped raise their two boys Buddy Alan and Michael. I knew them all as I worked for Buck Owens radio station in Phoenix for several years in the 80's. Merle had met Bonnie with the shared experience of being a musician in the hotbed of country music on the west coast in Bakersfield. By the time Bonnie married Merle it was several years after her final divorce from Buck. She was one beautiful and sweet lady.
