They're greatly missed.

Yes, he didn't age well for someone who was the most handsome guy singing and will always be. What a shame with all the talent he had that the first "reform school" did their job and encouraged him to sing and they didn't do a darn thing for him except make him want to escape the so-called reform school. Shame on them.

I spent fifteen years on the road and I wore out so many Haggard cassette tapes. Lol. And I was lucky enough to meet him after a concert he did in 2003. I was determined to get him to sighn my telecaster. Outside his bus he said " How about you hold it up and I'll sighn it". And that is (one of my favorite memories of all).

I was just a hillbilly cowboy from Oklahoma and heard My Friends Are Going To Be Strangers in 1966, I think, and I didn’t know who it was, but then by 1969 I was trying to sing every song Merle recorded. The bottom line Merle is the best there is, that I’ve ever heard in all areas of a song. I’ve recorded at Fireside a lot.

Classic; …………..!!!!!!!!!! Well If you’re A young 😮man with dreams of being a Songwriter. You’d want to study from the best. Then learn word smithing from Hank Corcoran. Or mighty Merle.to Bill Anderson. Because the words are everything. “Words Are everything “And the second Verse must be just as strong as the first verce……. Don’t ever sell short your second verse.Learn how to craft a SONG. Like Mickey Newberry’s San. Francisco Mabel Joy….CLASSIC Or Like Joni Mitchell’s on “ Both Sides Now” classic…… Word Smithing as I Like To Call It . Well That’s Everything Right There. I’m just Looking for A Way To Turn A Phase 🎼🙏🙏🙏🎼🎺🎺

Truth! I have been struck by how many young singer-songwriters these days have wonderful voices and production is often top notch but the lyrics seem to be mere descriptions of a place or situation...no point of view. Not many know how to "turn a phrase", to paint a picture that draws you into the song. If you would like to watch "Hank Cochran: Livin' for a Song", the documentary this footage was shot for with many iconic tunesmiths, here is the link. Enjoy! And Merry Christmas!! vimeo.com/122839742
