I`m 63 yrs old and spent 35 years in operating heavy equipment. There was a least half of those years from the middle of November to beginning of March where I was unemployed and trying to support my family . So this song always hits me hard whenever I hear it.

They found my mother's body the day he died. Also one of my best friends dropped dead from a heart attack. April 6 2016 was a bad day.

I remember this old song of his. My husband got laid off a week before Christmas in 1974. This is why country music is loved by many, we can relate to it. I love other genres also.

Upon finishing it, he called her in the middle of the night, drunk, and sang it to her. Of course, she was married but was another huge hit for Merle.
