I stumbled upon this last night and was completely thrilled!. Merle has always been my favorite singer/songwriter--ever! I was so privileged to have seen him in concert five times and I'd go again tonight if I had the chance! I more than idolize this man. There will never be any person EVER that will ever sing or write songs like this man. I have a very large collection of almost every album I've come across. And a CD collection, as well. I love how Teresa loved this man and got him on the road to full recovery. And it's obvious he loved her! The best to his family!

I had tickets three or four times. Each one was canceled due to, “suddenly becoming ill” which of course is now documented as Merle having evaded his entourage’s watchful eye and found his way into a bar nearby the venue… I liked Merle’s music; I became aware of it because my dad played his records on the old KLH hifi But Merle was more than just a performer and I hate the term, “artist.” He was a communicator, music was his medium, and the lyrics were mostly frosting. Few over centuries have that gift. I won’t name those few, and they are not even all musicians. Merle was and is a unique person. Imagine him without the wild living and troubled youth.

I can't help seeing the parallel similarity of Mr. Merle Haggard to another great country music icon favorite of mine, Mr. Waylon Jennings,.. But, Merle story brings me to tears, because his life in the early days is very similar to my own, I have experienced at the young age of 12yrs old, losing my father to last of four heart attacks at 50yrs old, on Christmas day 1976,... There was a lot of tragedy through out my life, he sang my life story,...I always will respect this man's life,...My father was from Kentucky,...and the song, ""If we make it through December"" just crumbles me,.. My daddie had came from Kentucky's tobbaco fields and coal mines, becoming parentless by the time he was 8yrs old, with no schooling, an that was half the start of his hard fight to live,...So,...yes, Mr. Merle Haggard, you sing with blessings in a better place and my dad has a front row seat, RIP my good friend,... Your true friend, Robert. 😪 🇺🇸

I have just literally come across this video. I will listen to it tomorrow. Thank you for uploading it. From Ireland. I spent the most enjoyable 4+ hours listening to the story of Merle Haggard. It was a very interesting, touching and sad in some parts. I love how he never lost his humble beginnings attitude. He didn't need granite counters and gold embellishments to prove he was a successful singer, writer and poet. I love when he painted the image of the house he grew up in. I felt so sad for the condition of the house when he went back to check it out. I absolutely agree with his sentiment, if you are poor you can still keep a clean and up kept home. Lack of money doesn't prevent you from having pride in your home. Laziness does. I felt his pain when he spoke about his baby being born sleeping. Our beautiful full term granddaughter was also born sleeping two days before her due date. That pain never goes away. This is one thing that I can't figure out. Why can people who really want to be parents, suffer the agony of not being able to get pregnant. Then there are too many women who get pregnant just standing next to a man (not literally but they are very fertile) and they bring babies into a life of misery. Merle lead a complicated life his music kept him moving. I really liked how kind he was about the wives who loved him and he never stopped loving them as friends. Once again thank you for uploading the book. I loved it.

How can you say that God caused the trials that people endure when 1st John 4:8 says God is love and James 1:13 says God does not cause trials. Perhaps you are referring to the god written about at 2 Corinthians 4:4 and 1 John 5:19. The word god is a title that designates power and can be applied to anyone with power. In both verses in 1 John the word god refers to Satan not our creator.

Merle tells the worlds story of the pains and the struggle as a common man in a common family and the common struggle 98% of the world lives. First as a kid then as a boy then as a young adult then as a old man. Can change the names and the faces and the places but it’s the same common story that drags though time. I never made it to Prision but only by the grace of GOD!!! But his story iss my story with just a bit different twist. And I thank Merle and all that was apart of his life that helped tell the. Story. From Dust we come to dust we go but the story is just retold and retold….

I never personally met Merle but loved his music. What a tumultuous life he led. In 1972 when I was 18 my best friend would work on lake Shasta where his uncle owned a resort where Merle spent a fair amount of time when he wasn’t on the road. Steve invited me up to stay for a few weeks that summer. Well one fine summer day Merle’s brother Lowell took steve and I on on Merle’s houseboat for the day. I don’t think I ever drank that much beer as I did that day since. we motored up the Pit River arm and all over the lake. He even took us to a cabin on the lake shore that Merle owned. That started a long love affair with the area and lake Shasta. My wife and I and kids spent many a summer boating and camping on lake Shasta. Rest in peace Merle. 🙏

In today's American society, its difficult to play by your own rules, but a few decades ago, this man sure as Hell did. He definitely paid his dues, and deserved all good things that came his way. I have always admired Merle's gentle public persona and loved his songs; however, this memoir has caused me to like him a lot less than I imagined. He was just a no good turd, and if not for making it in music he would still be breaking into people's homes and stealing their cars. Heck, he probably would have found crack or shot methamphetamine into his veins if born in the twenty-first century. I should never have listened to this.
