Meryl was one of the best. Country music has gone to the dogs these days, but thankfully we can go back and listen to Meryl, George, Marty, Hank and many other who paved the way with real country music.

Merle Haggard was a great country singer and a great song writer. This is one of many other songs self composed by him.
@JasonHannan2 жыл бұрын
Merle was a great writer for sure, but this song was not written by him, it was written by Max D. Barnes, who wrote a ton of other country hits

The best he was the one intertaner that caused me to have a band for 10 years as a living. Then up till now one man gigs 50 songs I'v written 2. I recorded back in the early 80 .got a little air play till they found out I was local. No free publicity.... But I was in the Marines over across the pond . 64 and a marine buddy had a guitar he was really trying to learn to play it..And I new a little guitar. I could strum it pretty good. We were in cold weather training at camp Fuji Japan in tents. And he broke out his guitar. And started showing him a few chords on it . Broke out with a old Hank Williams song and he side I sounded a lot like lefty . And merl haggard. Which hadn't been into any thing for the last 4 years except finishing school and joining the Marines. Which I had joined in 1962 right after I finished high school. So I wasn't into merl .. cause he didn't get started till the 60s . And I was still in school. But once I heard him I was hooked. We go out of the Marine in 1966 .. my buddy went his way I mine but we kept in touch.. one day he called me and said ..he wanted to start a country band .with me the lead singer. I said who else have you got he said just .you and me and I'll be the lead guitar player .That was 1969. I said well I'll try anything. But we will need a Base player and drummer. And I know a base player. And a drummer what about the pa system.He said he had a300 watt He lived in Texas and I was in California . He move Calf. The next month 2 weeks later we played a place in a club 5 nights and 2 after hours in California. For 100 dollars a night for 4 months. He turned out to be a in my eyes a great in picker ..He copied after Roy Nick..Merl's lead man..He got sick and went back to Texas to live with his mother he didn't last to long.. But I had gotten the music and band in my blood so I went on till around 1981 . I need more money than I was making with less head acks. So I went into the trucking business. And playing music on the side.Retied 2017 move to AZ. But Merle got me through a lot on the road....He was the best ... sorry got carried away.
