this Merle is so extraordinary in his breadth and depth. A terrific song writer. Terrific. And as well and extraordinary interpreter. As Shasta so adroitly put it, "he makes it his" even when he did not write it. Somehow, a little like I feel about Nina Simone, though of a fairly (but not totally) different genre, someone like this rarely, vary rarely comes along. While this is not his very best work, and there is so much that is brilliant and over the top, it is, like everything he has done, still great and several cuts above.
