oh i'm so GLAD i clicked on this one, it's such a wonderful edit! you really found the perfect song for them, it manages to be sweet and poignant at the same time, which reflects perfectly their relationship. But 2:23 to 3:00 really HITS, i can't believe i never noticed how much this song fit for them, and you illustrated that brilliantly through The Diamond of the Day and then those heart-breaking flashbasks... so, so, so happy to see that The Once and Future Fandom really is eternal, and that such great edits are still coming out 💙

Arthur certainly is in Merlin's heart. the real question is whether Merlin is in Arthur's heart. we thought we knew and then when Merlin finally confessed, Arthur seemed suddenly to regress lightyears back... plus the stuck-up prat hugged Merlin once in five seasons spanning 10yrs or so and managed to choose a moment Merlin can't remember.

I think Merlin certainly was in Arthur's heart, but he couldn't fully deal with how he felt about him. When Merlin was missing or injured, Arthur was devastated, and the way that they looked at each other is unmistakable. Arthur always maintained a power dynamic between them, almost as a protection, and that was shattered when Merlin told him that he was a sorcerer. Right from when he was young, he had been taught that magic was evil, and you can see on his face the fear and confusion when he learns that the person who means so much to him is what he has been told to hate. Merlin tells him that he is still the same person, and Arthur finally finds peace in the realisation that nothing else matters except what they have been to each other. If only they had had more time, but hopefully one day they will.
