Ganryu (Neo Geo)

A complete playthrough of Ganryu (武蔵巌流記) by Visco. Played on default MVS difficulty. No deaths. I didn't try to rescue all the hostages so if you wanted to see that I'd recommend watching one of the other playthroughs on KZbin instead.

Hey, Merlin. I finally got around to playing through this one on a credit. You might not remember, but a few years ago, you had suggested I try it. It wasn't until now that I finally got around to it, though. I found the orbs power up to be very useful. If you didn't already know about this, in stage 4, you can skip to the boss if you grab and swing at the very bottom of one of the pillars.

@Scarlett1RaS Sounds like you have a nice arcade collection too. Yes I heard about that new handheld. Some people were saying it was a hoax but it does seem to be official. It does look really nice the design. Not heard anything about the price yet. I'm actually tempted to buy a Caanoo though.

@Scarlett1RaS I love Visco. Whatever genre they attempted they created something really good. I'd say Breakers Revenge is one of the best fighting games ever created. I do like the Vasara shoot 'em ups but never tried Storm Blade. I'll give it a go. I was just looking at your channel a few days ago. Your playthroughs are amazing.

Merlin196- I agree. I wish VISCO made a very violent and bloody Mortal Kombat Clone for the NEO GEO that actually gave Mortal Kombat a run for its money.

@Merlin196 Thank you sir. You are some really good 1CC runs. :) Visco Corporation is a favorite of mine as are Neo Geo games although I am not good at all of the games just yet. I could never get the hang of King Of The Monsters 2. :( You are also a video game collector, no? I to like Breakers Revenge but it has been so long since I played it.

Visco made some good arcade games back then, Ganryu was one of them. Should try some Storm Blade, its quite decent.

@Scarlett1RaS Thanks. King of the Monsters 2 is very difficult especially since you have to face all the bosses again at the end. The cpu opponents always seem to win most of the grapples. Yes I do like to collect games too. I have a Sega Aero City with some CP System and PGM games and quite a few Neo Geo CD and Saturn games. How about you? Do you have a Neo Geo and/or any other arcade games?

KOTM2 - grapples only work up to three times - best to knock them down and use your charge move on it.

@Merlin196 I never really had the patience to figure out KOTM2 myself. Plus it didn't help much that I already resented the combat. The AI is probably at its cheapest that I have ever seen in a Neo-Geo game. I own a few arcade PCBs - 10 - but 4 of them I got cheap from a friend so I lucked out. They are coming out with a new Neo-Geo handheld. Any word on the price on that yet? I just hope it is not too expensive. I have been getting more into GBA games than anything lately.

@Merlin196 Its a decent arcade collection of which I made some recent additions to. Unfortunately I will never have many of those since they are to expensive and in the current state of the economy where I live it is tough to afford. I have not heard much of the Neo-Geo handheld but I hope they keep the prices low considering the games are nothing new or else people are more inclined to buy a Vita or 3DS.

I'm pretty sure I used a generic PS2-style controller which is what I normally use when not playing fighting games.

The two Breakers games are good but there are better fighting games on Neo Geo. What I really like by Visco was Neo DriftOut, best racing game on Neo Geo hands down.

Sometimes I look at this game and I am totally amazed- and other times I think it looks dull and boring as shit.

This is SNKs attempt at Ninja Gaiden and the game is actually very frustrating to play as it has and overwhelming stream of relentless enemies coming at you from every direction so much so it is super cheap and super hard. You will throw your controller down in disgust and give up on this very quickly. I am not a huge fan of Ninja Gaiden either for this reason but when you die on Ninja Gaiden it is for a real reason the difficulty not an endless stream of enemies that take cheap shots at you. This game may be fun to watch but not to play at all, this is very disappointing given Neo Geos many hit games. The game is not absolutely horrible but given the gameplay it is not enjoyable at all I cannot recommend it at all and this game should be avoided by everyone except die hard Neo Geo fans.

I think you should give it another try Andrew. Maybe you'll start to enjoy it more. It might seem hard at first but I'd say this is of below average difficulty for an arcade game. It's mainly about memorization. The last three bosses are the most challenging part of the game I think. Strangely I find the game easier if I don't use the special weapons. I think most people would be able to beat this on one credit after about 10 hours of practice.

Once you get the hang of controlling your hero and learning where all enemies & hostages/items are it isn't as hard as it seems. The slide is VERY useful in getting past ninjas using projectiles. ALL the bosses are MUCH easier to beat with the spinning orbs. Throwing stars are the LEAST damaging weapon against a boss however, the firebombs are even worse as they will go UNDER them. The third boss can be slowed down by jumping in front of his face right before he spews poison gas clouds - one piece of it will move much slower off the screen whereas the boss cannot do another attack until it goes off the screen (the worms will still appear but you don't have to parry another boss attack right away...).

I just played this and damn WHAT A HARD GAME. I only made it the lv2 boss and left it at that. Wow. The only way to finish this is by using save states. Not only you're right about the enemies being everywhere, but wait till you get to a boss. They're sooo cheap.
