Hey mate, we're a big fan of your videos. So here are some helpful comments: 1. The sight window in the new model is actually a little bit smaller. I have been shooting the BH for years and tested it and was distracted by it 2. The manufacturer behind it actually still offers both version, but the straight cut limbs are cheaper so there is more profit for the resellers like Mandarin Duck - as a company we have opted to continue to get the shape of MK1. 3. You have noticed that the new risers are slightly darker but we get the MK1 shape with that riser. 4. Back in the very old days there was a maple core limb Black Hunter - so we're actually now to MK3 really.

Great little bow but the looks now ruined .I would have rather paid a little more and have the mark one.If it was a choice now l would buy a samick sage instead of the mark 2 .Big mistake to alter the bow in my opinion looks like the accountants have been looking to save money and completely ruined the looks.

FWIW: got an MK2 Glurak longbow 2 days ago. Shooting 6inch groups at 10 yds out of the box, wait a minute. I haven’t shot a bow in 20 years, and that was a compound. It’s quiet, smooth and accurate, set it up correctly. Tapered limbs, square limbs, WHATEVER, it’s a hundred dollar bow that’s amazing for that price. I read a butt load of reviews, watched a truckload of videos and what have I perceived, people say they would pay up for this bow.

Got my Black Hunter yesterday and really love it, got the recurve version and I put caps on the limbs made of heavy plastic actually designed for crossbows but they keep the string very centered on the limbs and protect the bow limbs even better... my only addition. The bow shoots at 26 inches 45 pounds for the one I bought... and I really love it as much as I love my Mongolian Horse Bow... really nice and light bow... not heavy in the hand at all. I tested 300 spine carbon fiber arrows and they shoot the best and today I'm taking it out to test my Flu Flu arrows and see what spine of those works the best with the Black Hunter Recurve Bow... thanks... for your review.

The shelf is also cut way deeper on the MK1, the MK2 has much less centershot which makes tuning arrows a pain

Mandarin Duck Experience: I have a Mk1 Mandarin Duck Black Hunter Recurve with two pairs of limbs 30lb + 35lb limbs and love it. I also love the customer service - Several months after my initial purchase and a couple of thousand arrows later I had a limb explode (it happens to us all) however the outcome was as follows ..... one email later the company dispatched a "PAIR" of replacements the following day and three years later I still have had any further issues - well worth the price - Light - compact - snappy

Agree completely Jim on the look of the mk1. But if you are buying a new one and wan the look a short session with a wood rasp and file and the owner can have the nicer appearance. The finish on the bow is a thin layer of a mat product. Should be an easy match with a foam brush if someone wants to shape the limb ends to the profile of the mk1 Thanks for the great video content.

If I’m not mistaken, they can now use the exact same riser for both the long and recurve with this change.

Hi Jim, could you review the Raider from Mandarin Duck? It looks like the Hoyt Buffalo and I’m keen to see if you feel as though it shoots like one also. Particularly since the Buffalo is no longer in circulation - perhaps the Raider could be worth while alternative?

If they had taken the corners off the limbs like the bottom limb of the Mk1 it would be better… Square corners are not very nice looking

Interestingly there are multiple versions of the black hunter recurve sold in New Zealand including 58" and 60" versions. They were originally being sold in a 60" length then a 58" length came on the market which is still being sold by some retailers however a newer 60" version is being sold by other retailers and is labeled as MK2 but it has the bevelled corners. In this video it could be the just the camera angle making the one at the back look shorter but are the two bows being compared actually the same length? I shoot the 60" longbow limb version and prefer it over the recurve versions. It just feels smoother to shoot and has less noise.

Hi Makka, interestingly, the NZ retailer suggests in their product descriptions that the square edge limbs are a Chinese domestic market version (which the NZ store apparently batch ordered accidentally from Mandarin Duck). They state that the key difference with the Mk2 is the bambo core limbs. They also stock the Mk2 in the classic shape (also from Mandarin Duck) and refer to it as the 'Western Style'.

Hi S Chap - that was actually us! So let me give some detail: Back in the days the Black Hunter limbs had a maple wood core - that was the actual MK1. Then out came the bamboo core Mk2. Same shape. Now we have the square limbs also, which were first made for the Chinese market only - we happened to get a delivery of them and sold them for a bargain. They have now found their way over the rest of the world as they are sold cheaper to resellers so shops can increase their profit margins. It is actually still possible to get the tapered limbs and we still do as we much prefer this look and take a small hit on our profit. Mandarin Duck by the way is not the manufacturer but a reseller also they just get theirs branded. @Makka316 - the 58" version is made by Junxing, which is not the manufacturer for Mandarin Duck - not a bad bow though, and limbs etc. are compatible.

May I ask is it safe to put MK2 limbs on an MK1 riser? Or would the lack of contact with the riser at the corners of the limb butts be a liability?
