Looking back on this episode’s animatic, I think this episode’s production was around the time Spike wanted SpongeBob to join in on the fun of adult party cartoons, next to Ren & Stimpy. I think Steve and Nickelodeon did the right thing refusing that SpongeBob adult party cartoon offer, since SpongeBob with adult humor to the max may lead to lost and pretty awkward gems like this.

I can see why they cut out the entire giant robot scene, doesn't really fit well in comparison to the rest of their antics throughout the episode, which were shown to just be pranks and other childish deeds, which is also likely why they altered the scene of Barnacle Boy's first reveal of being evil where he already robbed a store, can't deny some of the lines in these scenes were pretty funny
