Correction - Very sorry everyone, but as pointed out, the word "Dagan" doesn't mean "corn," but rather, it is a more general term for "grain." Apologies for the mistake.

"Dagon" is the chief god of the phoenicians and the philistines and is the god of the city ashdod. he is pictured as half man and half fish. he is considered a nephilim one of the human/angelic beings.

I'm from the UK and the Corn fields when I grew up would have been wheat, oats and barley. We used it as a generic term for grain rather than for maize so when you said corn that's what I took it to be - grain.

You know the bad thing is that if we ever did find out that mermaids or any other cryptid existed people would just end up making them go extinct because people would want them for their tails or fur or whatever

They are real and they don’t have fur. They would scare the crap out of your average person. They are far from beautiful as most people see beauty they have fish like eyes and teeth and webbed hands with pointy nails almost like their teeth and they hiss they do have a huge tail with scales and long hair but their face is also not smooth like ours. I saw her in cape cod beach almost 47 years ago but she was a mermaid!

As soon as my body hit the water i opend my eyes half way through my descend and i made EYE CONTACT WITH A HUMANOID FACE!!! 😨😳 it scared the shit outta me and i panicked! While i am 100% with you on this. I will say that even though the mockumentaries mislead the audience and stuff, Mermaids the body found single handedly sparked my passion for marine biology as a whole. My fascination started out small and focused just being on cetacean vocalization, but has now lead me YEARS later into a much deeper adoration with all life within our oceans and i cannot thank them enough. So while it is true that they can mislead an audience, they can also be responsible for igniting the imagination and opening people up to the incredible biodiversity within our oceans. All in all though, great video sir. And i very much appreciate the serious unbiased take here, well put together and professional :)

I might not be as interested in marine biology and want to potentially pursue it as a career if it werent for animal planet mermaids. even though I know its fake, I love it for what it is and it holds a special place in my heart. I feel like they could've done a better job clarifying its fake tho, like another similar mockumentary "Dragons a fantasy made real" also very cool.

The coelacanth is a recently "rediscovered", in the last 100 years or so, fish. A living fossil originally thought to have been extinct along with the dinosaurs. At the time I first heard about it there were only a few known populations the largest being somewhere off the coast of South Africa, where I believe they were first discovered in the 1930s. Its been decades since I looked into it so places and times could be way off

My college is near where PT Barnum’s building used to be (its now a Zara store) and it burned down not once but twice. Thank you so much. I remember recommending the "merfolks/mermaids" topic in the comments section of one of other videos. Thank you for making this 🙏🏻👏🏻 The Kawaii Point Mermaid seems very convincing. Since you noted via your research that the photos have not been tampered with, the part of the tail just before the tail fluke seems too narrow and skinny to have a pair of legs inside if this were a woman in a tail costume. The tail fluke looks really good too.

I feel lost, I know that I’m strong but every day I cry for her and think about the times that we had, as well as the arguments that we had, and the things that she would say to me. What hurts the most is I can’t get the time back. I can’t change what’s been done. All I have now is our memories and I cling to them with all my heart. I hope that you take advantage of the time that you have with your parents and cherish them with all your heart, it never gets any easier and never feels any less painful. When I got into cryptozoology I sort of regarded mermaids as a holdover from ancient myths. I was surprised to find that there are quite a few mermaid/mermen sightings that seem more like unknown species. The Shetlands Island creature, if it wasn't a monkfish misidentfication, seems like it could be a possible new species for example, or the Orang-Ikan like you mentioned. People often see strange things that they'll use strange terms for, even if they're not accurate. As for 10:45, you see this phenomenon a LOT when you look into "Dogmen" reports. Werewolves are really popular in media, so a ton of videos of them get passed around as real.

i wonder how many written historical accounts of mermaids were descriptions of known animals that were misconstrued through translation, in the same way that the odyssey called the sea "wine dark" as they did not have a specific word for blue. the remains of cetaceans or other marine mammals may appear mermaid-like if decayed or damaged due to skeletal similarities between us and other mammals. Love the shoutout to mermaids the body found, that documentary scared the shit out of me as a kid and i was fully convinced it was real.

I was a mermaid in another lifetime, and that's an explanation I came up with at age 13 to explain why I won't eat seafood. See, that lifetime ended when I was eaten by sharks--why would I eat seafood, when I have been seafood?! About the time I settled on that explanation, I started having a recurring dream about being eaten by sharks; interpret that as you wish. All this means that I am not 100% sure whether or not any of it is empirically valid, and until I have actual evidence one way or another, it remains a possibility. Yea the stuff about the Japanese soldiers seeing things: You have to remember what kind of shape the Japanese army was in at that time. The war was really beginning to bite and on certain remote outposts they were becoming increasingly deprived and in many cases were driven to madness. You have those conditions and being stuck on a remote island, possibly completely cut off by this point. They could have seen anything

It's said that in the WW1 trenches, many soldiers literally claimed to have seen angels, likely a combination of wishful thinking and shell shock. Also, the Japanese story describes a creature more like a Kappa than a mermaid, so I find it likely that the stress and frustration of being in a dangerous situation far from home could make them make up a weird creature resembling familiar folklore.

@@AN-fg4cd because it wouldn’t make any evolutionary sense? If there were mermaids they either have to be apes which evolved to live in the water or they have to be fishes which evolved to look human like. In either case there would be no mixture of scales and normal skin, either full skin and fins like whales or full scales and no skin like a fish. A mixture is evolutionary wise just not possible. And even if and if they developed to be deep sea creatures, we should be able to find link fossils of pre-mermaids living close to shores…

Combine weeks/months of lonely feelings from your average sailor over the centuries and seeing nothing but fish day in and day out. There are going to be a few female faces in the ocean. I served in the Navy and can validate this.

In the 1980's I was almost bit by an old shark that looked like an old piece of wood. It hit my foot twice. And I torpedoed myself to the beach shore. Saving my life was better than any lottery prize. Thanks.

There’s a video of guys on a boat attaching a GoPro onto a shark and after hours and hours of it swimming it swims underneath a mermaid swimming . It couldn’t have been a human because the shark would have attacked it, but he almost avoided it.

That and quite a few sea mammals and fish resemble human figures with fish tails when viewed from a distance. You might see a porpoise or dolphin swimming close to the surface but deep enough that it is somewhat blurry and the flippers could be mistaken for outstretched human arms and the top half for a human body. Plus after months at sea with slight dehydration and malnutrition the imagination runs wild.

Enjoyed this video very much as the rest. I never believed in Mermaids much since the early days of this fake documentary when younger until like a couple years afte I found it was fake. I was pretyy upset they would this especially after a real Giant Squid discovery. Still think that the Giant Squid is one of the greatest discoveries ever made since helped identify many other squids on how intelligent they are. Many say squids will also be even a more top animal and even smarter in the future. Have an amazing day anyone reading this.

Nice video, loved the fact you have really done the research into all the different sightings, not just presented them. The South African/Kenyan mermaid looked to me to have pectoral fins, pelvic fins and gills - which are usually closer to a fishes head than the tail so it looked as if they buried her lower half in the sand and plonked a big fish on top of her covering the mouth with cloth or something. Would you consider Jenny Hanivers as mermaids? Incidentally why do mermaids have scales? No sea mammal has scales. Are they part human, part fish, part pangolin?

There's a video of one in jamaica, it's very brief, but a lot of us think it could be real based on where it was sighted, as that location has a history of mermaid sightings, plus the current of that part of the river is very strong and a normal person would be swept away by it, cars that fall into that river tend to dissapear only to be found in the harbour downstream. Look up "mermaid in Rio Cobre Jamaica" Hope you can debunk this, or give your opinion on the veracity of that video.

This video was very entertaining. I loved all the easter eggs. You seem to have good taste in TV :') But I was a bit disappointed in the lack of Shape of Water references during the bathtub part and Lighthouse references. Some questions: Did you read the whole pirate book? Maybe they used different language that you just didn't happen to search? And have any orang ikan been seen in that part of Indonesia since? Or have you seen any other references to it? Seems very interesting.

Bless your heart ♥️ for going through this mermaid 🧜🏼‍♀️ nonsense. Yes the fork lore has been around the world for eon’s, I also agree it’s fascinating but I also wouldn’t be surprised by some people who believe the obvious fakes. You’re very thoughtful when covering this topic and so kind as well. Your final words were truly great and inspiring. Great Work. Please forgive all grammatical errors because I have MS which causes many side effects like bad eyesight and even cognitive issues when I’m very tired. No pity please I just worried my comments aren’t understandable or coherent anymore. Believe me I’m blessed with my amazing husband of 38 years, our wonderful children plus their spouses and grandchildren. I’m grateful for all the stride’s made by researchers regarding MS treatments and medications, I can still walk with my cane and have a long life expectancy diagnosis. Just 15 years ago I might have already been in a wheelchair with a much shorter life expectancy. So Much Love ♥️ and Blessing’s To You And Yours

There's a tv show in my country where they showed how a mermaid skeleton was found on one of the beaches. They even had archeologists fly in from America. After the Americans became involved though it was swept under the rug like nothing happened. They wouldn't even let the archeologists in our country have access ro it.

For the one with the child, reddit was saying that it could've been a child that had gotten eaten by a large fish, but the child was too big for it to swallow whole so it basically died tryin to eat him/her. Can't really tell if the child is dead, but one of my nurse friends who i saw this video with, thinks the child is ok, but is having trouble breathing properly because the fish is clamped down on their body. If you watch the original video you hear either the child or the fish making a wheezing sound (i suspect it's the child).

Great video, I love your content! My favourite story about mermaids is actually completely true! (bear with me) Three men were diving off the coast of Catalina Island when one of them lost consciousness. As his friends struggled to pull him to shore, calling for help, three mermaids swam over and started doing first aid! They were members of a nearby mermaid school - literally a place where people learn how to be mermaids, with custom tails, shell bras, and of course sea rescue training. With their quick action the diver survived. and idk i just think it's really heartwarming that among all the legends and hoaxes, there's a real story of real heroism, even if the mermaids were fake.

The cave paintings of the mermaids actually is a real thing. I was wondering the same thing the other day whether these images were real, so I did some digging and I discovered that they're in the sand Stone caves in Egypt. However the paintings of mermaids are not the only things on the caves walls, there's actually paintings of humans swimming as well as many images such as giant people and handprints and many other depictions.
