Thank you sooo much! This settles it for me...Dramatic Classic! I have bounced around between Romantic and Dramatic...didn’t feel right. The Dramatic Classic makes so much sense. However, I have super curly hair...nothing simple or clean line about it. I mostly wear it pulled back and maybe that is the answer to my hair fitting my face and body. I get lots of compliments when worn down and curly,; none when smooth. It seems odd that my natural hair may not work with the rest of me. Maybe the curly hair worn down balances the yang somewhat? Perhaps a video on curly hair for the types? There are lots of us out there of many ethnicities with curly hair of all body types. Any thoughts on curly hair with Dramatic Classic. welcomed! E

Update...I found the Kibbe recommendation for DC hair...blunt cut. My curly hair down is blunt cut as I am growing it out. No wonder I get compliments when it is down...I stumbled into having the perfect cut for my body type...even though curly. It is more about the line and sharp edge of the blunt cut matching DC than the type of hair. I’m so glad to know this...I was considering getting it layered. Yikes! Now I have a plan.
@merriamstyle5 жыл бұрын
YES!! Couldn't agree more. I just drew some pictures for a client trying to explain it's all about the outer shapes, the outer outlines of the hair, and not so much if it's curly or straight. It's also about the texture. Dramatic could have curly hair, except it would be an angular sharp outline, and stiff-textured curls. Romantic could have curly hair, rounded outline, soft textured curls.
@elia.07135 жыл бұрын
DC too here and a blunt cut is what my soul needs atm but unfortunately I am stuck with somewhat of a shag cut and I'm growing my hair out now, my bangs are framing my face so they're not on the forehead anymore but there are a lot of layers many of which are short (such as the bangs or a big layer just under my chin)... are there any solutions for making it work apart from growing it out? :(

I think a lot of people could confuse some Classics with Gamine...
@merriamstyle5 жыл бұрын
Classics are confused with almost every other type I find. Because classics are in the middle, any tiny bit of 'sharpness' or 'softness' can be answered differently from C on the Kibbe quiz. For example, an answer C nose with a teeeeeeny tiny bit of sharpness (not nearly enough to be answer A, actually answer C), could be answered answer A......etc, so they can easily be confused with gamines. It's important to remember the *entire* continuum of how sharp vs soft lines can be.

That's common Lara! The key is to look at if your figure is shapely *for your weight*. If you look like a soft classic at 125, I would suspect that you look like a soft classic at 103 as well. But also you could watch my video on weight and kibbe type (I show some examples of rihanna at the end who is theatrical romantic at a lower weight and compare at a higher weight, so you can see how the yin changes, but her body iand figure are still yin no matter her weight). You do so well to explain what “balanced” means. I find it helpful to think of the continuum from Dramatic to Romantic like the journey of a straight line turning into a circle. Precise straight line to blurrier straight line to an oval’s outline to a circle’s outline. Classics would be the outline of an oval. In regards to the “balancing out” of the Classic: I would agree, but I think this balance of yin and yang is present even in the features themselves. For instance, the second Classic’s lips are quite full (yin), but they are pretty broad (yang). I can see this in the first Classic’s nose as well. She has a tall, narrow nose bridge-a pretty sharp trait-but the outlines of the nose (the nostrils, the tip, the sides of the bridge) add some softness to balance it out. The first lady is so very Classic and I adore the shoulder-length bob on her. The tight capris on the second SC give me the sense that she’s outgrown them, though I think she looks adorable in the pants cropped at the ankles. I wonder if I would feel the same way about the capris if they were not tight to the body. I hope I don’t seem rude; I realize nobody asked my opinion. She looks stunning in the dress-that hair, the silhouette, the makeup. Somehow even the T-shirt and ponytail look quite elegant on her. The second DC reminds me of an actress from the 80s or 90s, but I can’t put my finger on who exactly she reminds me of. Everyone featured looks absolutely lovely. This video was so very helpful and it's so wonderful that these ladies agreed to be featured for the benefit of our understanding.
@mmmlextacy5 жыл бұрын
Ooo that might be me! Not rude at all. Can you be more specific about which SC you're talking about (i.e. hair colour or specific clothing of the person)? I'd love any tips on clothes and lines I can get :D Only learnt I was an SC when Merriam let me know so it's all new.
@unneighborlyarcades63565 жыл бұрын
@@mmmlextacy I'm so glad you didn't think me rude. I like to be as honest as possible, but I also don't want to make anyone feel bad. I'm speaking of the woman featured at about 9:12. She is a curvy blonde. I think the reason I think she (I will henceforth use "you") looks as though you've outgrown the tight capris is because it's gone a bit too gamine, maybe. Maybe classics can borrow certain aspects of other clothing types, but if they venture too far into those types' styles, it becomes a bit "off". That may be why the pants cropped at the ankles simply show a bit more yin, whereas the tight capris seem too small (in my opinion). Oddly enough, I don't think you look as though you've outgrown the dress even though it and the capris are of the same length. I think it is the combination of its length and its tightness. It might also be the combination of the tight capris and the loose tank-top. Additionally, I like the T-shirt, but not the tank-top even though they are both relaxed and end at the same place on your hips. The tank-top, however, is looser (more relaxed) and its bottom border is freer, if that makes sense. So, again, maybe it has too much of that relaxed nature, whereas the t-shirt has just enough. Actually, something else I've noticed is that the vertical line seems different with each outfit at this mark. You looks very petite, quite tall, and of average height from left to right. Perhaps the angles are slightly different? But, to end on a compliment: Similarities I notice in the T-shirt and dress (which I think look fabulous) are their clean, simple neckline. If you notice, they are neither sharp, nor rounded. They are sort of both. The dress is clean and simple in its lines (as is the t-shirt), with just enough yin at the bottom to bring out your va-va-voom. It hugs the body and shows your shape in a way that is somehow not too yin. I think the ponytail and long bob are similar in their simplicity and sleekness. They high-light the classic beauty of your face. Long bobs must have been made for classics, because the first classic looked so lovely in that hairstyle as well. Another non-clothing related compliment: I notice the color of your eyebrows are the shade of the darkest part of your hair, which I think is absolutely beautiful. I assume it is your natural color, but if it isn't you are certainly good with knowing what shades of makeup to purchase. I love that shade of red lip on you as well. I hope this was thoroughly detailed. I should clarify that I am by no means an expert and that my opinions of what look good are no better than yours.

@@unneighborlyarcades6356 Hello!! I somehow missed this. Thank you so much for your considered reply. I agree with you completely! That is me by the way :) When I saw Merriam was wanting pictures, I quickly threw on clothes that I wouldn't actually really wear out of the house (what you can see in the middle there)! So yes, the leggings look pretty odd but I thought would show my body more so Merriam could 'type' me a bit better. I am trying hard to incorporate my lines better but it can be hard. I'd like to delve into a capsule wardrobe but find it hard to find even one single great pair of pants I'd want to wear frequently and then struggle to think of the coordinating pieces to be functional but also fun and nice to wear regularly. It's funny what you mention about my height. I am actually nearly 5"8 but agree that I don't look that tall - people often think I am more average sized. The angle of the photos definitely plays into it too as you say. Moving forward I will try rebuild my wardrobe slowly to match my newfound body type and try pick things that will suit me best. I think it'll be a bit easier in winter as I can find some nice soft jumpers and cropped pants. In Australia the hot summer can throw all fashion out the window if it's hot or revoltingly humid :) It would be amazing if Merriam lived nearby and could take me to the shops haha. A Gok Wan style makeover tv show based on Kibbe might be niche but would be AMAZING. Thanks again! I'd love more advice - it would be great if we could share photos on KZbin and (kindly) critique each other...

@@mmmlextacy No worries at all! And certainly, I never would have thought you 5'8, although in the picture with the capris you do look about that tall. That explanation makes perfect sense; I just thought they were your "I'm going to get very sweaty in a moment" outfit. We all have one of those, I think. I live in Texas, so I can understand your struggles with summer heat and humidity.Our summers happen at opposite times of the year, don't they? Actually, they probably happen at the same time-partially-because our winter happens in short spurts (days at a time) very randomly. Incorporating what we've learned about clothes can be difficult, I think, because there are so many different elements to consider. We may find a dress whose outline is this, but the fabric is that and the pattern is another thing. I love myself in a tight dress made of sturdy material, but that same dress in a very light and clingy material would look terrible. Those 1960's shift dresses (think of Twiggy) look good on me, but only if they end above the knee. Just one detail changes everything! I find shopping in thrift stores and vintage shops easier because the material tends to be better (not too cheap and stretchy) and the items tend to be a bit more...consistent in their details. Perhaps you can try in those places as well? Pants, I would think are the easiest part because one can simply buy a few in different neutral colors. For the non-color details, I will leave 2 links I think might be helpful to view as reference. www.tapatalk.com/groups/colorconnection/soft-classic-t1192.html doctortdesigns.com/2018/12/03/sew-your-kibbe-soft-classic/ I definitely wouldn't mind a good critiquing. I could fill a book with all of the terrible choices I've made-hairstyles, especially. Actually, I was thinking it would be very helpful if some brave souls would wear the same outfit (maybe order online and return it) so that we could see just how differently the same garment looks on different types.

All those ladies are gorgeous. Of course, since they are classics ;) But this was a very good example. Can't wait for the other types.

Im super interested in this whole process, and I found you because your video where you have a simple way of looking at different skin colors and finding the proper season (many people cant seem to do that with darker skin tones). I am noticing you are talking about hair in your assessment of kibbe body types... how does having natural afro textured hair play into this… I feel like i relate to this body type, but the way you describe their hair would not work for me. Just curious.....

I'm curious, what you, Merriam, and guys think... What type do you think Emily Ratajkovski is? People were discussing - if she is a SD, FG or a Natural. Based on knowledge I get from you, I figure, - FG must be completely wrong answer.... I thought she might be - a SG - like Halle Berry, complex asymmetry is her thing. But I like her in SD elements too
@cianap.2815 жыл бұрын
Ooh, interesting, because she looks good in everything. I can't tell from her body alone, but I vote FG, though I was hovering on SD. But some SD outfits seem to overwhelm her: thefappeningblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Emily-Ratajkowski-Braless-1.jpg FG lines and bold patterns, though, seem just right, and I can imagine they'd look good on other FG's or a modern day Audrey Hepburn: media.vogue.com/r/c_1,h_4000,w_3280/2015/06/07/12-tonys-best-beauty-emily-rat.jpg 3.bp.blogspot.com/-ciMGf38iSoc/WBJF-Br0aqI/AAAAAAACFbA/dyJuUcKA5Yc7o_A1f8kChVPNHOfOw2SMwCLcB/s1600/Emily-Ratajkowski-Express-2016-8.jpg I think she favors those long-line, floppy V-neck spaghetti strap Natural outfits because, besides being revealing, they look so "apart" from her that she looks somehow extra naked, which I think she's going for. It's an interesting visual trick.

@@cianap.281 Hello! Thank you so much for leaving your comment, and sharing your thoughts with me! As for the first picture.. Is it SD lines, SD outfit? Is it a skirt as the bottom piece of this outfit? This outfit is so grotesque.... The color, the velvet texture, the design... To me, I think it looks good on her - on such a person, personality... Complements her to enough extent, and doesn't go against her nature. Personally, I don't like the second outfit - that dark blue dress... I don't like this design, and the color, I think it dims her glow, her nature..:) I like the outfit in the third pic. Natural lines? Casual cut, the longer short...(As far as I remember, striped clothes can be recommended for either Gamines or Naturals) That outfit is just casual style. She looks like a model. - Most models are Naturals, and I think that's why, probably, she looks good in that striped shirt and skirt:) I like Natural style on her Those tops with straps you said about...:) I think I saw her in a silver glittery top like that. Maybe also in leather pants. The silver, the "party" top... I think the idea of such outfits - is for some people, who, maybe, have explicit Dramatic part to them:) Like Gamines, Flamboyant Naturals... Merriam said in previous video, that FGs have more yin skeleton, and more yin facial bones, but yang flesh on top, which, overall, creates the yang idea, yang body structure and yang facial features - if I got it right And that surprised me, and some other people in the comments too. Kibbie wrote on Gamines, and most sources say, as far as I remember, - yang skeleton, muscle, short vertical line, young facial bones, and some yin facial flesh, like some bigger lips... Maybe the theory has gotten some new approaches over the time, has changed to considerable extent, which, I suppose, has really happened... I don't really know about FGs now...:) As for SDs... For example, one can google Santa Dimopulos - you can figure out she is a SD. She has a strong dramatic essence, she has a strong and dramatic vibe, angular body, although she is pretty sophisticated, maybe dainty, in face and figure. Her height is 1.73. Emily has some SD hint about her, but she's lacking that essence to me, she is like softer, maybe she's rounder than that... A lot of people seem to really be in between of a few types, but tending to one of the types:) I can guess why she likes the revealing outfits... She was born in a family of an artist, and her father probably would paint a lot of nude portraits. And such creative people then, as Emily, have more different perception of art.... I'm sorry for my spelling errors in advance...

I'm curious about another lady... Her name is Irada Hait. She definitely leans towards a Gamine, naturally. (Maybe even pure)... She looks good with short hair, like famous Rihanna's, or Halle Berry's, and bob But her face is exotic, like a Bollywood actress, and she can pull off a SD look
@nanagursky1885 жыл бұрын
I just opened Emily's Instagram... It's just a study book in terms of those body type styles discussed above, and literally some others as well..:) Just a textbook of style, fashion pictures in general=) To tell the truth, not once I would think that Emily's outfits, some of them, - are just like Kourtney Kardashian's, who is a SG?, just same (like - "I just saw that"). And it's one of her best, just her lines. And also those... - like some 60s polka-dot dress(If I call it right) - white with black polka-dot, or cream brown with white, and bigger golden earrings... "Spanish", "South European", "Cuban" look, which you would imagine Penelope Cruz wearing:) athough I don't remember how exactly their dresses wrapped the figure):) It is also, a 100% Emily's nature, just the right choice. I guess, Kibbie typed exactly Penelope Cruz as FG Emily looks good in everything...:)

I am a year late but oh this all makes so much sense. I find it really difficult to get a nice fitter basic t-shirt for a soft classic with a waist+hips. The only one that I have that ticks all the boxes of good sleeve length for short arms and fitted at the sides is my Cadenshae breastfeeding one 😂.
