My honest opinion on Merritt trailers. im not being intentionally negative im just saying what i think, just because something needs improving does not mean that it is inherently bad. #peterbilt #truck #trailer #livestock #cattle

Always had Merrit trailers but last spring got a deal on a Wilson . I just haul cattle. I prefer the Merrit but would have to say that I would be happy with either one

Gr8 Reviews of the different brands!!!! Especially if Ur hauling lots of different livestock!!!!!

I have zero experience with livestock but I've done quite a bit of grain hauling with belly dumps, and I'm pretty familiar with the differences between Meritt and Wilson in that realm. I've always thought that Meritt belly dump trailers are absolute dog water, and it's funny to see that many of the complaints I have share the same design philosophies that you outline in this video; It's almost as if they're copying somebody else's homework without actually having ever done the job themselves. One or two different ideas in there, but mostly just somebody behind a desk nickel and diming every little thing to see what is minimally acceptable, with almost no thought to usability. This video just solidifies my opinion. I'd take a 10-year-old Timpte over a brand new Meritt almost any day.

That’s interesting I never knew Merritt made a grain trailer but up here it’s all lode king and doepker because our weight laws are so different and a lot of grain moves on b trains, we do have a Timpte on the farm tho 👍

Enjoyed your review... Your attention to detail is what makes you good at what you do. Happy New Years to you and the missus👍

Always found that higher belly clearance makes less room for the 3rd hog rail. But wait... You already said that it's no good for hogs. Oh and the panel sizes... That's you new age haulers that grumble about that. 10 years ago noone had same size panels. But it was a real pain, I'll grant you that!

That’s kinda my point, there have been a lot of improvements on the Wilson and eby side of things but yes we do enjoy a healthy grumble

i hauled livestock in the 90's. We had a punch side wilson and a slat side center hole. I loved the center hole, nice to climb around on. Had a couple old chamberlains laying around, but they were wore out. I still have nightmares about hogs.

Great video. Agree with your points. They used to run thinner gauge metal on walls so you would get cracks between the holes eventually.

Appreciate it, those cracks turn to tears and they start cutting critters too 🫤

Whoever stored that nose deck last needs an education on storing a merritt nose deck🤔😂.

Yes I wasn’t about to redo it just for the video but ya that’s a good way to wreck stuff.

Looks like the merit is not very user-friendly in certain ways.
