LIVING for the peppermint spiders! Literally want to make specific spiders for every holiday now :)

In the 80’s, my mom had a Christmas spider on her tree with the story about tinsel. So as an adult, I made one for my tree and hang it every year! I used mini tree ornaments in gold and used jewelry wire and put tiny beads on them for the legs
@colemyst2 жыл бұрын
My favorite thing about taking down the tree is removing the tinsel and adding it to the box of tinsel that we've had since I was small (1960's). [By the by, tinsel reflects so much better after it gets crinkled over time. Some of ours is over 70 years old. new strands have little personality.] It's very relaxing and no one else wants to do it, so no rushing. I used to play a game with my daughter that if she found any tinsel left over she would get a surprise. Also I got her to help take care of the ornaments by holding back some small gift and hiding it amongst the limbs then when she found it she could open after the ornaments were put away as long as she didn't break anything. It taught her to be extra careful with the extra delicate ones.

NICE PEPPERMINT SPIDERS AND JACK O LANTERNS FOR SNOWMAN I'M GOING TO PUT IT ON MY CHRISTMAS GOTHIC TREE AND MY LIVING ROOM.

Great idea! Yes!! The snowman jack-o'-lantern turned out just perfect. Imma huge fan of the icicles too, very vintage. On my tree every year.

Those peppermint spiders are adorable! I'm a sewer so spiders are my spirit animal!
@zoestephens7122 жыл бұрын
I love the little differences between the US and UK; your tinsel is called lametta and our tinsel looks like a metallic feather boa. The peppermint spiders are amazing! The wrapped canvas looks awesome, so effective 👌 I love it all 🖤

It’s easy to make Christmas decor spooky you just pic a colour scheme and add spooky elements to add with regular decorations. Throwing some skull decorations and other spooky things even on a regular traditional tree would make it spooky with out it bring nightmare before Christmas.

We use icicles on our tree every year, so if you want to try them again: the trick is to only do one or two at a time. Ideally you'd layer them, so do some inside first, then ornaments, then more on the outer branches, but it's fine if you only do them at the end. No fans (ceiling or otherwise) or walking fast past them allowed though (even if blowing at them from across the room is fun to watch)! ;) The old ones were made of lead (or some similarly toxic material) and didn't make quite as much of a mess (and laid much nicer), but we ran out of the stockpile of those sometime in the '80s. They really do look great with your black tree!

Definitely going to make some Christmas spiders! 🕷🍬
@channelabdullaev2 жыл бұрын
I got goosebumps by your retelling of the spider story at Christmas! That is so cool! I never heard of that. But to the loose tinsel: I was born in the 80’s and growing up we always got a fresh tree for Christmas and always covered it with silver loose tinsel. So not the fifties or sixties BUT definitely brings back so many memories from when I was really, really small.

We used to cover the window air conditioners in Christmas wrapping paper as well as any prints we had hanging up in our day center center and Pre school. Anyway, I love the gold and white present with the black bow. Everything turned out so cool.

The peppermint spiders! Your crafty brilliance needs some kind of award for that! Also loved the pipe cleaner spider webs and the JOl snowman. I have a large metal spider sculpture that is on my front stoop all year long. I dress him up for the holidays. He has on a scarf and a Santa hat for Christmas.

I have no online presence but years and years ago Pier 1 had wooden Halloween ornaments, which I still have, that looked like great old claymation holiday characters.

I didn't know the story of the Christmas spider when I first started putting the spiders on my tree years ago. But I love it. And I've always loved loose tinsel. As a kid, I couldn't decorate the tree if I didn't have tinsel.
@mrscb53032 жыл бұрын
Beautiful!! Please be careful if you have 🐈⬛ cats, tinsel is very bad for them and of course that means they want to eat it 🤦🏻♀️ Also if you are going to change that hutch paper each season, maybe make a template out of foam core or thin plywood, then you could wrap it and slide it in easily or at least use it for cutting out the paper. So much fun to watch you craft & decorate!💚

What a cool folk story!!! I love fairy tales and folklore and what a special one this was! Kinda hit me in the feels a little…What a neat depiction of spiders coming to bring Christmas cheer when they usually make people jump lol. The fact that tinsel is modeled after that story is just perfect. Tinsel is so beautiful and so tricky lol just like spiderwebbing! We tried it once and I haven’t been able to find it since but the year we did it…just gorgeous. The way the lights it- it just sparkles. Love the peppermint spiders too! I’m going to have to make some and the webs lol. Definitely love what you did with the whole room! So much fun and still very Christmassy AND spooky! ❤️❤️❤️
