@@2hot4u68 I completely agree with you. As much as I love the MCU, I really don’t like Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. She’s a very wooden actress and her characterization as Captain Marvel doesn’t feel right. From what I understand, there are rumors that she’s no longer playing Captain Marvel and there’s rumors that Nova will finally be introduced in the MCU. Marvel should’ve introduced Nova before Captain Marvel, considering the fact that we saw the Nova Corp in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

I love this man. He was ill fitted and even less prepared for his fate, took more Ls than Ws in his early carrier and was emotionally scarred during the Xandarian wars and instead of giving up he simply improved, trying harder and doing better until he became a paragon of the Nova Corps and galactic justice, loved and respected by the whole universe.

I always loved Nova. I actually have Nova #1 somewhere. Diamondhead, Condor, the Sphinx and Powerhouse were all members of his rogues gallery. Great video.

I was 10 years old in 1976 when Nova was introduced and I loved and collected all 25 or so issues that were released back then. I really loved RR as he was, in a way, the 70s version of Spiderman..in a budget kinda way. He was awkward, nerdy, but with his new powers, a rooky super hero who didn't fully realize how truly powerful he could become. Over the years he got cancelled but returned with the New Warriors in the late 80s early 90s and then the great series in the 2000s all in all, I still love the character and have collected figures, statues and of course, the comics. Great review of this well loved cosmic hero with an earthly origin.

My best friend and neighbor was into Nova and got me into the comic. Perfect fantasy for a 13 year old. I will say going back and reading a few of the earlier issues doesn't shed as much light on Zor as you have. Always love how you will give us the best entry point on a topic. Kudos!

I bought the first issue of Nova when it hit the newsstands. I was so captivated by it I read it over and over that summer. It even inspired me to create my own character "Fai-Son, man of energy" and I made a 8 page "Fabulous First Issue!" ...it was a total rip-off of Nova. Back then I only read Marvel books, so I did'nt know anything about Green Lantern, so the Nova story was all new to me. Something about Richard Ryder appealed to me in a way that Peter Parker did'nt. Nova immediately became one of my regular books every month, and one of my favorite "B" characters. Thanks for this vid. It took me back to my childhood...

Your thinking of DC's version of Nova. Firestorm the Nuclear Man AKA Ronnie Raymond and his Prof. They both got caught in a mini nuclear explosion in a nuclear power plant. Loved both these characters original runs. Firestorm only last five issues when he first came out. Same for DC's Black Lighting and Ragman series. Nova ran from June/Sept 1976-78.

It's possible since, apparently Marvel is looking for a young actor to play Nova, wanting for him to develop a strong friendship with Spider man. However I don't think they will go with Richard Rider, but rather his successor Sam Alexander, who is a teenager and, in the animated series Ultimate Spider man, was one of Peter's friends.

Is Sam Alexander more popular as Nova than Richard Rider since he appeared in all the animated series while Richard appeared only in the comics which is why everyone wants him to appear in the MCU?

Sam got a lot of popularity from being in the cartoons. Sam was created by Jeph Loeb and he was the head of Marvel Animation and Television so he used his power to promote his character. But in the comics Rich has a lot of stories, history and character growth in the comics. Both characters are good but ultimately Rich's story is more interesting IMO even though he started with the Spider-Man formula of teen superheroes (with some differences) he ended up having his own dynamics and ending up being a much different character since he started which is rare for a lot of comic characters since status quo is always trying to be maintained. Sam had a good first run but he is also a repeat of that Spider-Man teen hero formula as are a lot of Marvel teen heroes (like Miles and Kamala) and in his comic the writers started repeating stuff that happened to Rich (Sam even joins the New Warriors at one point) and I think that and him being a Loeb creation might work against him being in the MCU for awhile. Besides Rich was in one of the drafts for the first Guardians movies and both Markus and Mcfeely toyed with him being in Infinity War (he was going to be the one who crashed landed on Earth and warned Strange about Thanos) so I think there's definitely plans to use him for the MCU.

They definitely have a very similar origin story. The Nova Corps very much feels like Marvel's answer to the Green Lantern Corps.

I feel like Quasar fits that role more than Nova. He has similar powers to GL, he is the protector of the universe, he used a piece of jewelry (quantum bands) for his powers (Richard never needed his helmet for his powers), he was chosen to be Quasar, Epoch is like his Guardian, and his creator toyed with the idea of making a Quasar corps since it was hinted that there were more than one Protector of the Universe but the universe is so vast that they were very far from each other to ever meet. He was also created to protect the whole universe while Nova was originally a teen hero who then evolved into more of a Space Lone ranger (and for the moment he's with the Guardians). Wolfman has said that Rich being like Green Lantern was unintentional in his part since he was just trying to recreate the origin of his old character The Star who got his powers from being hit by a ray from space. Heck if you go back and see this during the Skrull-xandar parts you'll also notice the other Novas don't really have powers. They ride hover bikes, they use guns, or wrist bands to shoot laser. It's because originally the Nova Prime had Nova force which is also why Adora and the other Xandarians took Rich's powers back when he wanted to go back home. New Warriors started making the Nova corps more like Green Lantern and Annihilation Prologue showed them as cops (which they never were before that) and it's what people remember the most but that story also did away with them. That said there's another connection to Nova and GL. Ron Marz is a big Nova fan and he has admitted that Kyle Rayner's origin was partially inspired by Richard Rider's who gets his powers randomly and in a moment of desperation and where their respective corps are dead making them them the last Nova or last Green Lantern.

I always liked the Nova Corps better than the Green Lantern Corps. The Guardians' motives are really suspect and I hate their holier than thou attitude towards the universe. The fact they screwed up with the Manhunters should be enough to put serious doubts on them. Nova on the other hand aren't unsanctioned universe police forcing their ideals on others. They just defend their corner of the galaxy.

I mean the Nova corps tried to expand in New Warriors to different planets and galaxies and by Annihilation Prologue they were a police force similar to GL until they got killed by Annihilus' wave. They also tend to die a lot and become easily corrupted. Not to mention most of the Nova stories don't really have the Nova corps that much since they're dead.
