Good evening merv, I was impressed with your diligence in this task, however although it’s ‘nice’ to have ‘fixed’ your car by doing this, are you not concerned with the more pressing issue of your steering wheel being on the wrong side of the car? My advice is not to drive it at all until you have it repaired and moved back over to the correct side.

Bascially, you need to look at the aux port you are installing as an extension of whatever your car stereo allows. If the back of that head unit has usb and mini-jack, then you just run cables from the auxilliary jack to those input ports on the back of your unit.

Good question. My best answer is that the function of the ports would depend on the head unit that is receiving them, of which there are countless varieties. great video! I like it and helps to get an idea of how to do it! but would this work for a 2007 Toyota Corolla?
@MervsServiceSecrets7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yingchi! Basic oil change procedures are pretty universal from one car to another, but the location of things is going to vary slightly. My video gives you a good overview of how we did it on this particular Toyota, but it's always very important to check your car's owner's manual, not only for recommended procedures, oil types, etc ... but also for safety precautions. Remember, before you start messin' around under a car, you want to make sure it is cool and that you have jacked it up in the safest way possible. Feel free to use my videos for general concepts, but also do a healthy amount of research before attempting your own repairs/maintenance and check with other professionals you may have access to. I mean, I know a lot, but I'm no God. Close, but not quite! :) Hope this helps. And thanks a million for watchin' ! -Merv Himself
@demillevantigo74327 жыл бұрын
Hi Yingchi! Merv sometimes drifts between dimensions and starts blabbing about oil changes instead of AUX JACKS! To answer your question better, let me tell you that every car really is a bit different, but there are a lot of common procedures and things to look for. For one thing, it really depends on the specifics of your current head unit. The inputs you need would be located on the rear of it and if they are there, it's a fairly simple hookup. Rather than yanking the thing out to check, you might be able to do some googling in order to find the tech specs of your unit. The kid's car that we were working on did NOT have those hookups, plus he wanted a nicer head unit, so Merv upgraded. But like Merv said when he was babbling about old changes, with a little research and asking around, you can find the answers you need before ripping your car apart. And always be safe, Yingchi. There's power behind that dashboard! -Demille Vantigo , filmmaker for Merv's Service Secrets. www.MervServe.com

Hey Merv! Just wondering if there's a way to install this to an OEM stereo that doesn't have AUX? Like is there an aux input adapter I can buy to connect it with this? I bought the AUX jack without knowing that my radio needs to have the cable to make it work.
@MervsServiceSecrets8 жыл бұрын
Hard to advise on your specific situation since there are so many variables. The video we made specifically applied to our situation because the head unit had Aux inputs in the back for mini plug as well as USB, so we connected our cable extenders to those for easy hookup. You'll see that in our extended cut at around 10 or 11 minutes in. We always try to show some additional considerations with a dash of humor in those extended cuts... so I might suggest checking out that "Problems & Pitfalls" video at the below link. I just bought a 3.5mm Jack AUX Interface Adaptor yesterday. Basically a box with an AUX, USB, and SD card port. I'm wondering if I can hook this socket and cables up to those slots. The adapter interface has a connector that connects right into the CD changer port in the back of my OEM unit.
@MervsServiceSecrets8 жыл бұрын
Jimmy, I wish I could be of more assistance, but I have to be honest regarding the fact that I don't know enough about the specific interface you are describing. If it was me, I would contact the manufacturer of that adapter, or go to their website for more information on how the unit pairs up (or doesn't) with your existing equipment. Make sure everything is compatible and, as always, be careful.

Pearl your question is excellent and thanks for watching. Sure do hope you'll like & subscribe. Unfortunately, it's hard to advise on your specific situation since there are so many variables. The video we made specifically applied to our situation because the head unit had Aux inputs in the back for mini plug as well as USB, so we just connected our cable extenders to those for easy hookup. Check out our extended cut at around 10 or 11 minutes in. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHrbmIaHpLSIb5Y&list=PLlkQlS1BNEJbguZ-2mcjpkCoWxoVgR0_r&index=12 We always try to show some additional considerations with a dash of humor in the extended cuts... so check it out. I think it will be truly illuminating. Of course, we can't tell you what to do, we can only show you what WE did in our car, but I hope this points you in the right direction. -Merv Himself

would this work in a 98 toyota avalon?
@MervsServiceSecrets7 жыл бұрын
Ashok, it depends on your existing head unit. Rather than yanking the thing out to check, you might be able to do some googling in order to find the tech specs of your unit and whether or not it will work on your avalon. You might also want to check out the "Uncensored" version for deeper info. Here's the link -->kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHrbmIaHpLSIb5Y 1

Not confirming. Not Denying. But either way, this here channel will probably evaporate if I don't find a lifeline somewhere. The KZbin gods have a new monetization policy that is going to make it impossible to raise enough money to even buy cigars. I figure if I can't have a good stogie, what's' the point in makin' these here masterpieces.

Merv's Service Secrets its a shame bcuz its guys like that make youtube what it is but they have allowed corporate advertising begin to control the free expression i was considering starting a channel but now i feel like it would be for nothing

Thanks, Ty. Hope you'll join the Mervolution and spread the word to subscribe. Together, we can change the world one crazy DIY project at a time! If someone has a clever way of doing a project, I will post their video with a callout on my channel to help them get started. If all of us small guys band together, we can have a big voice! -Merv

Thanks for wathcing Nicholas. What really matters is the head unit you are attaching to. The old radio was not equipped for the accessories we wanted to connect, so we bought a new one, which worked out great! Check the product links above. And thanks for joining the Mervolution!

Hmm. That does pose an interesting philosophical question, Chip. Why not buy a new one? Can't say enough about that Pioneer unit we installed. I asked Demille to put a link to it in the description above. It actually produces an incredible sound. We thought the kid had crummy speakers in his little car, but once we installed this thing, wow! Truly amazing.

Jessica, I personally believe ANYTHIN' can be made to work with the right amount of duct tape and chicken wire. However, for more specific advice you might want to research your situation on DUCK-DUCK-GO. Also, here is a segment in my uncensored video where I explain certain nuances. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHrbmIaHpLSIb5Y
