While Virtue and Moir embody elegance and sophistication, Davis and White represent immense power and athletic ability
@Unfiltered494

You know that quote from Black Swan? "Perfection is not just about control. It's also about letting go". I've always found it a perfect summary of why I preferred Davis/White. Virtue and Moir were perfect, but for me they lacked this "letting go" factor.
@maplelu9514
@maplelu9514 4 жыл бұрын
No real reason to compare. I get you’re just stating what you see but they’re doing what works for them and the ability to “let go” doesn’t determine better quality skating. I know you didn’t explicitly say it’s better but it is definitely an undertone of what you’re trying to say, if it’s not then that’s fine, it is what it is either way

They're SO dynamic. It's just a storm of power, movement, emotion, and SPEED that never stops. Just phenomenal. They were always known for their speed, but it's very apparent in this video how fast they're going. Even the spins are so fast, and that speed makes every single element exponentially more difficult. The best ever dance team.

Davis and White even retiring early after Sochi in 2014, were ISU #1 ranked ice dance team 2010-2014. Virtue and Moir weren't #1 until after Davis and White left competitive skating then returned to college to finish new careers. That didn't happen until 2017 for V and M. Also D and W beat V and M in free dance nearly 90% of time during time they competed against each other.

This routine was perfect for the two of them. It allowed for Charlie's energy, attack, musicality. Meryl, as always, skates her part with delicacy and perfection. I thought they were robbed. I remember how classy they were in receiving the silver - not so with Virtue and Moir when Davis and White took gold four years later. I think the world of both Meryl and Charlie - they were, and always will be excellent ambassadors in the skating world.

Remember the scores are in the hands of 7 judges. For whatever reasons the routine that Tessa/Scott performed resonated more with the judges. And they have the benefit of instant replay. The only difference I can possibly point to is that Tessa/Scott's feet were almost ALWAYS in perfect unison. I also feel that after the second twizzle when they dropped to one knee and glided toward the judges with head bowed-it stole the show. That's when that performance stole my heart. Both teams were amazing.
@L1623VP
@L1623VP Жыл бұрын
@@mariezurie2172 Let's not forget home ice advantage is a real thing, and Skate Canada did some heavy campaigning for V&M. Prior to that Olympic season, V&M had only won two gold medals in three years with only ONE of them being a GP event. In my book, there is no way V&M out-skated D&W at those Olympics, especially in the FD. The speed alone at which they skated should have earned them the gold. At that speed, every single element becomes exponentially more difficult.

One must remember that Charlie White has performed in his skating career with asthma. Yes he takes regulated medication, but to do training and perfected performances consistently with Meryl for 17 years, they are the best in ice dancing. I know they retired at the top of their profession, but innovation, speed on ice, musicality, and signature twizzlers will follow their induction into skating hall of fame. Had they skated for any country I would feel same way. Love you D & W.

They do wonderfully in this program, but it's to their credit that I see how they've improved in later years. They are an excellent couple.

Sectional! Phenomenal! With their explosive body's movements, face expressions, jesters, they live in music every second! Charly is so artistic with such a volcanic energy! She is in his hand like a fragile, beautiful flower...What a delight to watch them! them!

Go and check the gold medal performance of that evening :) Devis and White were great but Virtue and Moir were on a league on their own. The best free dance ever, in my opinion.

Story is just creepy af BUT Davis and White pulled it off so well and it's probably because I already know the storyline like the back of my hand but I actually could follow the story they were trying to tell! And I just *love* her dress! 100% Point of No Return-esc!

There is a movie version of the play, but if you ever have the chance to see a live performance, go! I fell in love with the music before I ever saw the musical performed on stage (national tour version). Track down the soundtrack.
