There was never a problem with this performance, it was the short dance where they given higher technical scores for moves that they executed incorrectly that got people mad.

Fawkes Pryde I think V&M should-a won the SD but that D&W should-a won the FD + overall. V&M’s SD was one of my favorites ever. This FD of D&W’s is absolutely magnificent and, IMO, blew “The Seasons” outta the water... “The Seasons” felt derivative of their Mahler. At the height of their rivalry you really couldn’t split these two teams. Hats off to V&M for coming back and basically reinventing themselves to becoming the winningest, most versatile ice dancers of all-time. In just two seasons they gave us Prince, The Eagles, and Roxanne.
@JackAShepherd
@JackAShepherd 5 жыл бұрын
RichCoffey Can’t recall any flaws in D&W’s SD but V&M’s perfect performance was criminally underscored by comparison... Just like their FDs at Worlds 2011 and 2013. The judges really preferred D&W... I could understand them being ahead by a razor’s edge but they’d win everything by a mile, which was absurd. Got the impression Marina threw all her focus into them after Vancouver, establishing them as the next Olympic champs so she’d have two Golds from two different teams/countries. Glad they left her when they returned to competition.

In the 4 discipline in Figure Skating, Ice Dancing is probably the hardest to perfect as it doesn't allow jumps and lifts like that in the Pairs. It is also the one that needs to be technically and artistically perfect. I though I would never see the day the US will win in this discipline but this two prove us all wrong.

i have watched this video umpteen million times and what strikes me is how different it is than last years'. in notre dame charlie would really throw meryl around in the turn transitions - if that makes sense. really fling her arm and her. this dance had none of that. in phantom also, he was much more agressive. that has been toned down for this dance. i couldn't quite put my finger on it until watching again this morning. the passion and drama i rather miss. when watching their exhibition pieces i really miss the drama! their dances are almost like V&M. and a little boring. i think if i was to pay to see them dance i would be disappointed if all they did were dances to moonlight sonata or fade into you.

Lara Hartley Do you mean the lifts? The first one and the last two were every bit as exciting as any other lift they've done. And I think their exhibition piece was to show a different side to them. That they 'could' skate without the speed. I thought it was beautiful.

I would love to ice dance. I was raised in Florida. I dance and sing. I enharrated being a Countess and Lady of Malta. I miss singing. I was hit by a truck. I still sing and dance in green and black. Ireland and Malta. A gift someday would be to see Ireland. The N.W. part. My father passed. He was the house of Ferguson. He ran the coal mines way before our Civil War. I dream of ice dancing. Time has passed and all there seems to be are cell phones. No eye to eye contact. What color are my eyes I asked my young relation I talked with? PRETTY, She said. I need to touch those I love. Show that on ice and a winner you shall be. Why am I writing this? For the love of the sport.

Bravo to the most exciting ice-dance team in the world! I've been watching them since 2008, and it's been interesting to watch them 'mature' in the performance/sophistication aspect of their skating; undefeated internationally during the past 2 yrs (so, the 2014 Olympics is no 'fluke'); I've listened to commentators from British Eurosport, Italian TV et al., and they all raved. 2 World Championships, 5 Grand Prix Final Gold Medals, innumerable NHK, 4CC, etc. championships, 6 US Nat'l titles; their artistry kept getting better and better, as did the consistency of their skating since c. 2011. The male commentator here was one of the men who raved at their 2013 NHK performance (he used same phrases); woman who sounded bored only was on air for 2013 SA. And D/W always showed respect, never complained if they were underscored or missed out on a podium; famously, Meryl hushing audience boos for too low scores at 2009 WCs (which Brit. Euro. called 'the dance of the evening!'). A lot of people only "discovered" D/W at the Olympics, but they have done so many memorable programs (including "Polovetsian Dances", "Lennon", "Samson & Delilah" (!!), "Die Fledermaus", "Tangos", "Notre Dame de Paris", and now "Scheherezade"). I think they just matured later than V/M and kept getting better and better.

Agreed, D&W have proven themselves many times over. I think most of the people that are protesting aren't serious fans anyway. Even those that prefer Tessa and Scott knew that Meryl and Charlie were the ones to beat based on results this year especially. I am so proud of them for doing it in Russia of all places since the audience was borderline hostile, yet they did it in convincing fashion anyway.

Exactly...Everyone is entitled to their opinion on who they prefer. But I totally resent some of the people posting insinuating and worse that Meryl and Charlie did not deserve the gold medal. They absolutely deserved it and earned every single mark they received. They have evolved over the last few years and have won the major competitions hands down while always pushing the envelope to make themselves better. .. The best team are the 2014 Olympic Champions...

I think my favorite performance of Scheherazade will always be nationals, but the Olympic performances are absolutely thrilling. Just wonderful performances, and absolutely deserving of their gold. So happy for them, and I'm thrilled we'll at least be able to see them in shows in the future.

I love the Nationals performance because it was on home ground in Boston and the crowd really went nuts. They even began to applaud before the performance was over. I cry every time I view this video. What amazing athletes and I love watching both but especially Meryl who has it all - beauty, grace, athleticism, class.She looks somewhat delicate because of her statue but she is so STRONG!!!!!!!

For me they were the best of their time. They represent immense power and such an amazing athletic ability. And the most important thing about them is, its not just control its also letting it go. They look so comfortable with doing it and they don't have pressure doing it. That is what makes them the best team

There's no one like these 2 on the world stage right now. Meryl and Charlie are 1 of a kind. I've been watching them for a long time and they are the epitome of grace, beauty, strength, power, and passion. I love Tessa and Scott but Meryl and Charlie are hands down my very favorite. We here in the USA need to keep figure skating a priority. So if you have a chance to see Meryl and Charlie and other figure skaters, go so them and support them. You won't regret it.

Jodi J i was replying to your last message and lost it. i never know how to find old messages...anyway, totally agree with you about V&M overly touchy/feely program. AND you're right too about this being all about technique. there was this little "thing" that was missing you saw in samson and delilah and notre dame in this skate. i thought the program for notre dame was perfect. absolutely perfect. the lift, magnificent. the upside down perpendicular here just doesn't to it for me. i gotta stop watching ice dancing at 11 p.m. - i never get to bed.

Lara Hartley This isn't my favorite program but it grew on me. Especially at 2:30 where they embrace (sort of). I actually yelled "Yes!" when I first saw it at Nationals(?). lol! I love their chemistry with S&D and Notre Dame but, like I said, this (for me) was a technical program. I'm sure they wanted to get the curved and perpendicular lifts just right. I enjoyed the entire program, just not on an emotional level. That's what S&D (my favorite) is for. :)

The Sochi audience was rude to many of the skaters. If they weren't Russian, most didn't applaud. They didn't applaud for Tessa & Scott either. But for the rest of the Sochi audience, Meryl & Charlie got a standing ovation from many people. Their performance was beyond spectacular. The American audience in Boston at the Worlds was supportive of EVERY country that skated. Just goes to show the mentality of people and especially the mentality of stupid people commenting on this page.
