Bette Davis’ performance in Now Voyager is absolutely phenomenal. She shatters all leading-lady conventions and brings both vulnerability and strength, both need and independence, both clumsiness and grace, both joy and heartbreak. That is truly HER film, and I believe every woman should watch it at least once. It’s one of those performances that you never forget.

In an interview she mentioned how her mother turned to photography to help pay for Bette & her sister to attend private schools & college & she photographed Bette's graduating class, Bette stood there & said to herself i will work hard & be successful & my mother will not have to work again. She honored that promise to herself. Such a gracious person.

What a beautiful tribute from one great actress to another! I applaud Meryl Streep's humility and praise of Bette Davis, whom I will always regard as the greatest actress of all time. Now Voyager, Dark Victory, Jezebel, Mr. Skeffington, The Little Foxes and, of course, All About Eve are brilliant examples of why I revere Bette Davis. For me, the greatest film ever made is All About Eve and I can't imagine anyone else in the role of Margo Channing than Bette Davis.

When I was in my early teens (I'm 71 now), my mother took me to Boston Symphony Hall to see an evening of film clips and stories of Hollywood from Ms Davis herself. After what seemed like probably too long a time of Q & A from the audiance, we were close enuf to hear Ms Davis tell her assistant onstage with her, "Let's get out of here." I'll remember that evening till the day I die.

I saw Miss Davis on her English tour. It was the most thrilling night of my life. I saw it in Southport and she gave the audience another 15 minutes. I never wanted the evening to end. As a footnote, we were walking along the pedestrian promenade, which was also wide enough for cars, and I saw a magnificent car coming towards us. I said to my partner, 'Wouldn't be great if Miss Davis was in this car?' And she was! Thank you God for making my dream come true.

She was so beutiful and mischievous but certainly an outstanding skillful actress, who never disappointed and caught the eye of everyone who held her in high regard respectfully. That's Davis playing the role of Mildred Rogers, a Cockney tearoom waitress in _Of Human Bondage_ , a film adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's novel of the same name. The character of Baby Jane Hudson, an aging child vaudeville performer, has nothing in comparison with this role. Davis failed to earn a Best Actress nomination for an Academy Award for _Of Human Bondage_ with only three nominees making the final cut. A loud faction heralding Davis's performance ended up with the Academy allowing "write in" votes in addition to the official nominees that year. Claudette Colbert, starring in three major films that year, nevertheless easily won the award for _It Happened One Night_ .

Bette Davis might have lost the battle with Warner Bros, but ultimately she won the war. She earned respect for her talent and hat she brought to the industry. Before 'The Big Lie' went into production, Bette and Mary Astor went to Jack Warner, asking to switch roles because Mary was a trained pianist and Bette wanted a break from playing the haridan. He also allowed them to punch up the weak script. When he was President, Ronald Reagan confessed that if he were half the actress she is he wouldn't be President. To those who haven't seen it, I suggest watching 'Mr. Skeffington'...it's 'Now Voyager' in reverse.

Truly, a highlight of my life. I love so much the age of the actresses of b&w films like BD, Marlena D., Greta G.,(who one of my co-w0rkers insisted that I resembled, bless his imagiation) Mae W., Carole L., and later, Lauren B. drove the movie industrial machine that evebtually killed Marilyn. Suggest you see the films she did with William Wyler- Jezebel, the Letter, Little Foxes. Imo they are amongst her best work and Wyler was maybe the greatest director of pre 60s Hollywood.

Katherine Hepburn has won the most Oscars and deserved them all. However, the greatest actress of all-rime is Bette Davis. Davis defied the stereotypes of women in her time. In every role Davis took, she empowered women and really was the woman who broke the glass ceiling for women excellence and power. All great actresses rest upon her soldier. Davis was unapologetic for breaking down the conventional stereotypes of women in the 30's, 40's, 50', and 60's. When you think of the song that Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin sang, "Sisters are doing it for themselves," you have to think first of Bette Davis. Davis did it for not just herself but for all women.

These film clips of Bette Davis speak for themselves. She was as great as an actress gets. But I believe that Meryl Streep has gotten better and better with age, and she is as great as it gets today.

True, but a lot of old movies played on TV at all times of day. The Early Movie came on around three-thirty just as I was getting home from school. First saw John Cassavetes in “The Night Holds Terror” and Bogart in I think “Desperate Hours” on the Early Movie. Then there were movies in prime time and the Late Show around eleven-thirty or later (first came to love Montgomery Clift in “The Young Lions” and “A Place in the Sun” on the Late Show). Good memories.

Not one mention of "All About Eve," one of the best movies ever made -- contrary to the video title. Clickbait.

I loved her anger. She didn't hold back. She is my hero after a lifetime of being told to be nice or you won't be acceptable. It's still true for women. Bette didn't give a shit if she wasn't liked. She had her own way of saying, "Go f___ yourself."

Meryl should play Bette Davis! Maybe a remake of Baby Jane with Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford, real movie directed by bonafide director, not for tv crap again.

I can’t believe that after all these DECADES of her name being all over the place that people will still leave comments under videos about her WHERE HER NAME IS IN THE TITLE AND VIDEO and spell her name as “Betty”. Jesus Christ people lmfao
