I finally saw Angels in America yesterday, after 20 years. All the performances were great, but Meryl is really in a league of her own. She portrayed a Mormon mom, an old rabbi, and Ethel Rosenberg. It was astounding because they were all so believable.

"The bravest thing in the world is that writer that sits alone in a room and works out his grief, his rage, his imagination, and his deep desire to make people laugh, and he makes a work of art that then transforms the world with the truth - because that’s all we want, you know. That’s all we need."

I thought that I couldn’t stand Meryl Streep because I thought she would replace Hepburn and Davis in my mind as the great actresses but I actually adore Meryl because of her true versatility. She will always be tops in my books.
@djtexas499310 ай бұрын
I think it would have been different had she been their contemporaries, but she was not, she was a different generation. There wasn’t really any “replacement” imo. Though Davis did write her that letter.

I don’t know. It’s a phenomenal performance(s), but it was definitely supporting.
@davy2093 жыл бұрын
Well technically Meryl did play four different characters that took up a lot of screen time all together. It’s like Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove, yes he played about 3 different supporting characters but overall he had the most screen time than any actor in the film. Similar to Meryl Streep in Angels in America.

Meryl Streep was considered a Lead since she performed 4 different characters that took up a good bulk of the screen time.

Dis you not see Angel's In America? She did all of those "annoying accent roles" in this miniseries you speak of. She played a rabbi with a Yiddish accent, Ethel Rosenberg with an accent.

Greatest actress in the world which is why you should never believe a bit of what she says when it comes to serious topics. She could fool anyone and in fact has that she is remotely humble. She did in fact give herself away in this speech.
