The Boogie Five-Band EQ works extremely well in front of an amp or patched in through the effects loop, for even greater flexibility. If you’re unsatisfied with the sound or tweakability of your amp’s stock EQ, the Boogie Five-Band EQ pedal is an easily implemented substitute

I prefer these type of pedals in the effects loop, also. The great thing about these type of pedals is, you can crank up your amp, for "that sound" and turn down the volume on the pedal. You can still get a great tone, at bedroom levels!

In all seriousness tho TK, that pedal worked BEST in the FX loop. When you had it in front of the guitar and upped that 80Hz band it got real muddy and flubby. When in the loop it was much smoother and more defined! I always use my graph pedal in the loop. I do my boost pedal as well!

+DMSProduktions I don't disagree ... that's why you'll see it didn't remove from the FX loop :-)

Thank you, TK, for the demo of the classic V curve in the fx loop of the amp. That was good to hear.

Personally, I like to place an EQ pedal after my drives and Fuzz - because I love how it drastically changes how fuzz sounds in that part of the chain - TTK obviously loves Mesa Engineering and is especially fond of their EQ section that has become a mainstay of their amps. The "V" shape that you can make with the Mesa 5 band EQ is especially great for scooping the mids - you can also use an EQ pedal as a clean boost, transparent overdrive - or to make up for inefficiencies of an amp - they work anywhere in your signal chain

I would use the pedal in front of my amp, in my pedal board, i would put it before my overdrive and distortions. Special Credit - EQ pedals are some of the must unrecognized pedals out there, but this pedal is not just a stomp box sized pedal, it is then EQ on the Mesa Boogie Mark 3, 4 and 5. One of the most recognized EQ's out there. Some people use this EQ to make there amp sound bigger. The EQ can do som much for you, add or cut bass, add or cut treble, it can do so much. Amazing EQ.

Cool video. I agree every guitarist needs an EQ pedal but don't know if I want one in my arsenal - sounds uncomfortable! Just looking at all the great amps in the Tone Lounge - is there a Boogie in there?

1) I would use this pedal, in front of my amp after a compressor or overdrive to give back any lost articulation or roll off any of the harsh highs. 2) TTK showed us this specific pedal because he thinks its the most iconic eq pedal at the moment and played an essential role in shaping the classic rock tone we all know and love.

You need to trim the Input not output an EQ is a selective Volume "knob". With Bands Boosted you just raised the Volume up & vice versa. so the output should be the knob to adjust that.

How would YOU use this pedal? I would use this in the FX Loop loop. I personally like to accentuate and add in any tones needed to get the desired tone I am looking for. Why did TTK work directly with Mesa to show THIS specific EQ pedal? TTK feels (in his humble opinion) that it is the most icon EQ pedal currently on the market. It has been on several Mesa amps (such as the Mark series) so it's very similar to an amp EQ.

... so if I put this pedal into loop of mark V model it would have the same impact on sound as in-build EQ ...

i tried this pedal and the mxr 108, i liked the mxr 108 more though, just because of more sliders, the tone isn't any different

Eq.s rule they just would need a few more bands in the low mid and low frequency areas, to be even more flexible! With a drop tuned guitar it would really help. This pedal though was a good one, and that is because it actually cuts enough (if I heard correctly up to -40 dB)! That's the way to go!

1... I would us this EQ Pedal in the front of my amp probably most of the time but I would also experiment with it in different positions in my pedal line up and of coarse as well try it out in the loop... 2... TTK work directly with Mesa to show THIS specific EQ pedal? pedals finally make it possible for players Who Do not own a Mesa amplifier To have the same Control over Their legendary amp's frequency response, plus some of Mesa's Most famous Mark Rectifier Series and gain circuits.

keep the gain on noon always! think too much gain may be the culprit in your sometimes bad tone.

Q1: I'd use it in the FX loop to shape my final tone prior to the power amp. Q2: He feels it's one of the most iconic EQ pedals out there.
