For the record, so there's no confusion... the OVERDRIVE light (yellow) is NOT from clipping the amp... that's the RED light that actually says CLIP... The OVERDRIVE is a tube like saturation sound... the higher you go, the more you get... seems you guys would've read the manual to know this before the demo as to not misinform folks... Regardless, great video and playing, loved it

Hey from Dublin I have the Mesa Subway D800 and Mesa 1x15 and 1/10 Cabs since early last year. They are absolutely superb for gigging in small, medium & large venues. The “Voicing” is the key to get your preferred tone on this awesome amp 🏆

What might be useful for these already great demo's is running through some of the manual suggested settings where available.

This line seems to compete most directly at Aguilar's TH or AG d-class heads plus SL cabinets. I've had all of these. Using the D800+ amp currently (with a pair of Aguilar Sl112's) and think it sounds a little better than the AG700 - a little more flexibility in the tone options.

Here’s a series of show ideas - the all about the bass guys build a complete rig at certain price points ( sub 1,000, 1,500 and no budget). They could steal some of the rules and format from sounds like . Another one could be setting up a beginner rig . (Would be a timely topic if they timed that one with the holidays )

Hmm, is it just me or are the deep and bright switches REAAAALLY subtle. Can't hear much of a difference really. But the actual post gain eq sounds really good and versatile. Love the added HPF. You can really crank the bass, but roll off any low frequency rumble that the room you're playing might have. Good job Mesa!
@OlettaLiano6 жыл бұрын
I could hear a difference with headphones on, but I think the bright would have been a little more pronounced if playing with a pick.

I own an 800+. The deep switch has a good amount of low end boost. The bright switch doesn’t add much at all. The midrange controls are the best feature on this amp.
@matthewsweet52326 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it has a bit more of an effect when then the HPF is rolled back some. The HPF is right about 60% when they are playing with it, but the manual also indicates that it lowers the effective frequency of the HPF. "DEEP SWITCH: This switch (and its associated blue indicator LED) engages the DEEP flter, our take on classic low frequency response enhancement and extension. When engaged, there is a mild boost in the very low frequency response while also lowering the effective high pass flter frequency. This combination brings a more round, thicker, fatter response to the bottom end. When using with small (compact style) cabinets, be aware of the possibility of damage due to overpowering at higher volumes." I'll know more tomorrow when FedEx drops mine off! ;)

Love the review. Helping me decide on whether i want that D800+ and rig you have shown. Other than that the review is extremely enjoyable and comes across like you two guys are just having great fun. Many many thanks for sharing. EDIT to say that the input limit is the same as other amps while the output limit LED takes the amp into Tube emulation mode so the amp needs to be running pretty hard to achieve that effect.

I'm hearing conflicting information on the hi pass filter with the D 800. Another reputable channel stated it's internal on the D 800. I do not know, so I'm hoping somehow this can be confirmed or debunked. Thanks!

Is it normal that a 15 inch speaker produces more treble than a 12 inch? Or could it just be perceived treble addition? I've not used one as of yet
@lamech0066 жыл бұрын
Perhaps a lot of that hi end is coming from Lee's jazz bass. I don't think the cabs have separate tweeters...
@krispatel16 жыл бұрын
@@lamech006 They are separate tweeters I belive, my mesa carbine 1x12 has the same construction. The jazz bass could be the reason though yeah

I can't really capture the sound of the amplifier due to the nature of their playing style. They have low action and pluck the strings hard. I hear more of the strings being plucked and of them slapping on the fretboard than I do the actual sound. I use the opposite approach in my technique. To each his own.

Not really feeling these Mesa amps. In my humble opinion they can't touch Hartke or Gallien-Krueger amps around the same price range.
@peterthomas11876 жыл бұрын
I agree, something not quite grabbing me, especially at that price point. I usually gig with a Hartke HA5500 head and a GK CX210 cab and I love the sound I get from it! Cuts through the mix well (2 x guitar and a loud drummer!) and is great for small to medium size gigs. The cost of the two units combined was less than the D800 amp here...
@kylemundy88714 жыл бұрын
I traded in my Ampeg svt for this mesa. Tried the Krueger and it was great, but just a matter of taste I guess.
@diegodamigellabassplayer33026 жыл бұрын
Mesa are nice sounding heads but I found them overpriced considering also that they are not even entirely made in US , as they claim to be.
@lamech0066 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing they use circuit boards built in Asia?
@diegodamigellabassplayer33026 жыл бұрын
lamech006 Made in Taiwan, I think, at list some of their pcb. Mark Bass for example claim that their product are entirely made in Italy but some components are made in Brazil or Asia. Nothing wrong with that but I just think that they say that to justify the high costs of their products.
@peterthomas11876 жыл бұрын
It's all in the wording! Any product could be entirely built in a country such as Italy, USA or UK but from components manufactured elsewhere. It's just that it is assembled in those countries. Hopefully QC'd there too but even so, a tad misleading...

Maysah equipment is overrated and overpriced. Only ever played through one of their bass amps, and it wasn't any better than others a lot less pricey. The 15 cab had an unpleasant low end thump.
