Finding some new tones on the Dual Rectifier with a couple Metallica riffs!
I used the 2nd channel in vintage mode.
Check out my other vid! • Mesa Dual Rectifier Me...

turn the gains down a little and the volume up more to get tallica tone. With tube amps more volume = more gain+different tone

Thanks, yeah you're right. I sold this amp, and bought a '92 triple rectifier. My new videos have some different tones ;-)

Thanks man, much appreciated! Sure, the settings I used was on the 2nd channel, in Vintage mode. Presence: 11 o clock. Volume: 2 o clock. Gain: 2 o clock Bass: 11 o clock Middle: 10 o clock. Treble: 1 o clock. On the back I had it set to Bold and to silicone diodes. The master volume was around 10 o clock, so pretty loud :)

Also, I used a MXR GT-OD overdrive and a Boss NS-2 noise gate. The overdrive was set to maximum volume, tone in the middle and gain all the way down, so pretty much only a clean boost. ;)

Thanks man! Now I use the vintage setting on channel 3 the most, also in bandsetting. The Modern setting is also really good though, I switch back and forth between those ;)

@@jacopopatoia4505 haha no problem man, I used channel 2 in vintage mode. Not something you hear too often haha. Settings I can't remember anymore, but nothing crazy. I sold this head and bought a 2 channel triple rectifier instead though

No, 81/85 ;) When the EMG metalwork pickups come out I plan out getting the black brushed chrome 81 and 60 though

I'm sorry I meant cab. Was looking at buying a rectifier roadster head for 1k and will need a cab. Wasn't sure how much the cab effects the sound. Ad thabks almost regret buying the iron cross because it's expensive
@basmesa
@basmesa 10 жыл бұрын
Good deal for a Roadster! The cab has a fine tuning role in the sound. The amp itself is about 80% of the sound. Then pickups en then the cab I would say. The Engl I used has the Celestion V60 speakers, which sound a little scooped and some more low mids then for example a Marshall 1960 would sound. My advice is try as many cabs as you can with the Roadster! But, a good amp will sound good through almost any cab!

This is what happens when you only use preamp gain instead of mixing preamp and power amp gain. Not a very good tone. My advice ? Turn Master Volume to full and channel volume as low as you can. Tone is a lot better and you can get full benefit of those 6L6 ( it's a common trick with tube amps unless you have an attenuator ).

Completely wrong. Power tube distortion is great for old school greasy classic rock tones, but not for tight metal tones. Distorting the power tubes causes the low end to sag and flub out; not ideal for this application but the holy grail for others. You really want a clean signal as possible for tight, percussive metal rhythms. That is why high wattage tube heads remain in favor for metal, because they can get loud while having enough headroom to stay tight with the lows. As an example, during the black album tour, the band slaved their Mark IV heads into Strategy 400 power amps, which were 2x200 watts of stereo tube power. More headroom for tight crushing metal at earsplitting volumes suitable for huge stadium shows.

Breakdown riff in damage inc is played incorrect there are double and triples on fretted notes. Your close but a little off its a really tricky riff
@Tropicsca
@Tropicsca 8 жыл бұрын
you know its mostly the fact that people play 7 strings and down tuned riffs on these amps that makes them sound so metal. I would suggest trying a variety of amps before you just look one up on youtube and decide "that's the one"

Thanks a lot man! By can you mean cam? Well it sounds a lot bigger and meatier in the room, the cam thins out the sound a bit. I have some other videos where I close mic'd the Mesa, sounds better IMO! :) Nice choice of buying the Iron Cross, very cool guitar!

4 digital pedals, aren't you killing the tone of the guitar?

Nah, I'm only going through the MXR overdrive, with the gain set to 0 and the volume max. Then a Boss noisesuppressor, that's it! :)
