Will definitely check this out as we’re going there next year. Interesting that reservations are made outside of rec dot gov, but that’s nice because you can make them farther out. Did you stay in one of the sites with hookups?

@@exploringnewhites i would highly suggest wonderland rv park for hookups. Only 7 minutes away from the park

Cherish every moment you have with each other, I had a great wife who hiked, full of spirit, great cook and we did so much together; one car accident and she is disabled for life... Luckily we did more by midlife than most do in a lifetime, never take each other for granted.

Trish that margarita makes you a lightweight. My wife drinks them a pitcher at a time. Another tip for hummus is to put a little bit of crushed ice in to thin it a little and keep it from getting warm while blending nice and smoothe.

I am so jealous! We visited Mesa Verde in June of 21, and the tours were shut down due to COVID. The closest we got to the pueblos was gazing down from the rim of the canyon. Maybe once we get out of the new normal, and return to the old normal, we'll have a chance to return for the tours. Thanks for sharing!

My wife and I are Colorado residents in the process of moving to our property in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We have been to Mesa Verde several times on our Harleys, awesome trip and beautiful views. We were able to book all the tours in advance and we had an awesome time. Being on bikes definitely helped getting to the different locations.

We went there in summer of 2010, We are retired teachers now and were blessed with summers off and traveling to all the national parks out by mesa verde, canyonlands, arches, capitol reef, bryce, grand canyon north and south, page, AZ, Kanab, colorado river ride out of page to Lee's Ferry, The memories fade as we age (68) LOL but still what we remember is always great. Our kids were out of college then and our daughter like 5 star hotels so they stayed home in CT. We now live in Myrtle Beach, SC and livin" the life.

Love channel! Advice needs to be sound and complete, especially where SAFETY is a concern. ADVISE NOT SO SOUND (or complete) at the 9 minute mark regarding X-Chocks "eliminating movement". Scissor chock stabilizers lock tires into place which helps the problem but does not eliminate bouncing that you get from tires being on the ground. Additionally, the scissor chock stabilizers need to be adjusted when the tire cools from the trip. A better solution that requires more work is to put jack stands under the axles near the tires. A cheaper solution as well. Requires 4 jack stands, a bottle jack (which you should already have) for changing a flat tire), and a piece of cardboard to lay on. 1. Disconnect and level trailer as normal without corner jacks down. 2. "Bottle jack" up each axle near tire and insert jack stand close to tire. 3. Lower corner jacks down as support. Now there is a solid feel when walking around your trailer coach! Please remember due to weight constraints of building a trailer, everything is lite-weight so perfection is not obtainable. My wife loves sleeping in, therefore my obsession with a solid floor! 20 year 5th wheeler, 2 year class a "dp" PS....Advice for scissor chock stabilizers: NOT A WHEEL CHOCK, wheels need to be chocked properly first. Should only be used on a near-level spot at worst. Level trailer as normal. Use scissor chalk stabilizers as instructed. Check tightness of scissor chalk stabilizers after several hours, as tires contract as they cool after a trip. THE DANGEROUS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE SPOT IS NOT LEVEL, CHOCKING UNDER THE TIRE HAS NOT BEEN DONE, THE TIRES COOL, THE SCISSOR CHOCK STABILIZER FAIL TO HOLD THE TRAILER IN POSITION AS THE TIRES COOL AND CONTRACT. A common mistake because many folks may think the product is a wheel chock and stabilizer, having no idea about tire cooling and contracting.

Hi guys. Really enjoy your v ideas. I grew up in Cortez and have been to the Mesa probably 50 times. Even though I love the ruins, I think I appreciate the museum more. You really get to learn about the native peoples and their culture. I also was fortunate to go to a party for the archeological team that excavated the first part of Weatheral Mesa. Spent over two hours at the ruins with the head archeologist. What a learning experience.

Hi, guys! We were at Mesa Verde in April 2022, just before the tours opened for the season. It would have been GREAT to have had your blog ahead of time to know what to expect. When we first got into the NP, we thought it was pretty anticlimactic after all the great things we had heard about it….that nearly an hour drive to find the ruins nearly had my not-so-patient husband ready to turn around and leave. So glad we hung in for the rest of the drive. We are what you might call a little older, so ot sure about actually doing the more strenuous tours, but it’s something we might try when we are back out that way from home in NW Georgia. Thanks so much!

We just missed you! We left the day before the road to Cliff Palace and Balcony house were closed. We will be back to see them. But I would also recommend a hike up to the fire look out tower. The ranger was super friendly and even let us go inside and gave us a tour of her equipment. Super interesting! If you have bikes we recommend the road up around the Long House. Hidden gem! They use to run teams on this road. Now the road sits empty. A long walk for sure but great for bikes! Lots of ruins to be seen and we head them all to ourselves. Also we were there on our anniversary so we are at the Metate room. For sure one of the best meals we ate on our 8 week journey.

Our first National Park was Mesa Verde and it did not disappoint. One thing that we did learn is little dogs are more susceptible to hypoxia and the side-effect of that was literally liquid diarrhea. You can use your imagination as I add the “incident” was as we were leaving the park. I look back fondly on that trip but my wife might not because the dog was in her lap. Whenever we talk about that I giggle uncontrollably until I look over at her giving me the “evil eye”. Great memories of our RV travels!
