Mesh or No Mesh for Adult Inguinal Hernia Repair

Excellent briefing. Patient feedback -- I wish they could recommend a standard template for adults to use for rehab and return to physical activities. The recommendations I got from my attending and resident surgeons and on the internet are all over the map. Just a template for how long to wait, a glidepath to follow for walking, then certain activities, then strength training etc......

Is there a study of 10 years or more showing recurrence in shouldice vs mesh repair? Can polypropylene mesh last 20 years or more 8n human tissue and retain its structural integrity?

I have the same doubt. Maybe the Titanium coated polypropylene meshes last that long. But I think some of the normal pp can fail because its strength fall over time and a cough could cause hernia again.

@@bluewave7120 They seem to be more aware of shrinkage these days, more than 10 years ago. The heavier meshes cause more shrinkage, so now they're using lighter meshes to prevent too much shrinkage, inflammation and foreign body response.

Basically shouldice is the superior surgery if you want to live. Downside is that you will have like a 6 cm scar in your groin. Don’t believe the lies that lapro will make you recover faster and less pain… I had both and shouldice recovery was around 3 days and feel almost full around a week. Lapro wish mesh on the other hand left me with extremely painful recovery and the co2 gas pain is 10-10 can’t event fucking move. Surgeons will all make you do mesh for the fact the surgery takes 5 minutes compare to 30-45 minutes with natural repair. Mesh can give you insane side effects lots of pain and doctors see it as a very complex surgery to remove… I am young male who been to both and now looking at mesh removal I have develop a mesh illness similar to some sort of autoimmune systemic disease from head to toe. So please if you value your fucking life avoid this mesh bulll shit not to mention some patients complain of chronic pain after the mesh fails years on. Don’t risk your life over stupidly. What I told you is the entire truth.. Also your surgeon should be experience in many techniques and even mesh removal do not go to a doctor who only does inguinal hernia repair they tend to suck and lack experience if anything goes wrong.

You're presenting information from a study that examines "30-day outcomes and 1-year recurrence rates"? Are you kidding? What about ten years out? Or twenty years after surgery? How is the "mesh" doing then? What's that you say? "We have no answer for that"? Yeah. And this presentation is a joke.
