I finally have a KZbin account...and it's so nice to be able to "share" in the comments...This brings back so many memories. It feels like a lifetime ago...but it wasn't. This band was on fire. We were so young. At times I felt like we weren't doing anything; there was like a sphere that would just float above us all, all we had to do was just lay our hands on it and it would happen....Lil' Doc (I hear you!!), Poofy on the guitar slayin' them...My brother Gene with his sharp haircut. Alfredito ("Cambia de canal!!"...). BJ (bad cat all around...just singin' this time). Biti & Arif: inseparable. I love this part of my life...

Good to see you on KZbin, my BEYOND funky and talented maestro!!! I live in L.A. and saw damn near EVERY performance of Meshell's right up to "Cookie" and for me THIS was the bands of ALL bands!!! Y'all we're seriously UNTOUCHABLE!!! My absolute favorite clip is Part 2 of "8 Track"...that ending is just plain SICK!!! Y'ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES FOR BEING THAT DAMN FUNKY!!!

@@seansherrod8725 Hey Sean!! I appreciate the kind words: never take anything for granted. You're right: that was one hell of a band!! Those who know KNOW, and you (and I) were lucky for having experienced it...Glad to hear you caught so many shows!! I'm sure you saw many "ON" nights. I definitely agree with you, that band did something in music that marked an era and a vibe....Some know it. Sending you a vibe... Federico

So nice that you share your story about this super band. You and David Dyson were killin it. The way you colorise the notes on that Rhodes is tastefulness and pure bliss for the soul ❤

Meshell is IT! What a soul...

Exactly!! Keyboard improv conjured up vague memories of the Mr Hands LP. Made me pull it out and appreciate it all over again (Freddie Washington and all). That is what great music like this from Me'Shell's band will do. What a jam!
@hoffus14 жыл бұрын
Dammmmmm it. The band is just crushin' it from all angles. The keyboard player has a real Herbie Hancock thing goin on the Rhodes or whatever he begins his solo on. I mean that as a serious compliment - in the way he moves around with the clean polymodal effect. Saw this band in 99 in Seattle and was so tight and soulful just like this. Great post and thanks. This gives me a great memory of that show.

Thanks bobfunk! This video was making the rounds on the iConcert channel in Europe a few years ago. I had it on my DVR in HD and it was awesome. Unfortunately, I lost it in a hard drive crash :(

OMFG - this is AWESEOME! Thx, Bobfunk. Never heard a live version of this track so funky. Going to Me'Shell concert here in Copenhagen 3 February. Actually my first Me'Shell concert - despite the fact that I've listened to her for more than 10 years - almost every day. THIS version is pure joy. They're having sooo much fun. Dyson - u just got yourself a new fan. Cool drummer. Nice guitarist. Awesome ('Hancock-inspired') keyboard dude - and Me'Shell the one and only = a true rythm godess!

Mr. Workman, take a closer look at the video and you will see David Dyson is playing bass on this song. While Meshell is indeed an awesome bass player she's mostly singing. She jumps in every once in a while but its David Dyson who is holding it down on this one.

Hey Bobfunk.... Is this a concert available to buy? I saw your reply (u working there).... How can I get this on a DVD? MUST HAVE.... this is probably the baddest groove and best live performance I've heard for many years.... Can U help me how to get this concert. I'd die to hear it all....
