Realized I saw her open for Sting a little more than a week before this recording in Charlotte. I was absolutely blown away (especially with Faithful) by her music; and bought her album the first thing the next morning. What a memory.

The entire extended vamp on "The Way" with Me'Shell interacting with the audience is such a tasty jam. I gotta guess Me'Shell was her own musical director, and some of the modal stuff she put in these live vamps to keep it spicy for the team is awesome. Cato, FGP, and Mr. Gene Lake - what a backbone, what a band!

Thank you so much for putting this here, I had this recording but I lost it somehow somewhere. From time to time year after year I googled this but without any results, I now have found it. I guess this one was called Dazzling sessions in New York. I'm so happy. The guitar solos are the best ever. Do you happen to know the guitarist's name? Is that Chris Bruce?
@FedericoGPena3 жыл бұрын
No, not Chris Bruce; the guitar player is Allen Cato. When you hear acoustic AND electric [at the same time] Bryant McNeil is on the acoustic, but Cato played both on the set.

She introduces the band at 1:42:43: Allen Cato on electric & acoustic guitars, the outstanding Federico Gonazalez Pena on keys, Bryant McNeil on acoustic guitar, Fima Ephron on the second bass, Alfredo Mojica on percussion, Oliver Gene Lake on drums. This was my favorite live lineup for Meshell. Check out Federico's comments on this video.

Thank you for uploading this show! One question though: is there a reason that "Deuteronomy: Niggerman" was edited out of this upload? It's supposed to be played right after "Ecclesiastes: Free My Heart" and right before "The Way".

Wow...great!! At first I thought this was Bowery Ballroom, but the crowd seemed smaller and then she said "We've been here for three nights...", so I'm guessing it's from a short run we did at the Village Underground. I think the Ballroom was a week prior to this...or maybe this wasn't 1999...I wanna say this was later. The Village Underground gigs were definitely 2001 or 2002 if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, it's cool to hear things that we only played for a very short span of time; complete surprise...like the little thing that we ended with: I barely remember that. Interested in knowing how you got the bootlegs; no shade at all....happy that the stuff is documented and circulating, I just thought only a few of us had some of these. I'd be curious to check out your collection. Love
