Cool, I'll have to try it. I always wanted to see something like this used on ancient sights and megaliths around the world.

A good rule of thumb is to not re aim the camera but instead move to a different location and make sure all points are visible in at least 3 pics from different locations. I have seen 3d reconstructions of old buildings(exterior and interior). They are pretty neat. But large projects takes a large number of images(hundreds or thousands) along with a lot of RAM and time. I tried reconstructing my property one time and my laptop crashed. I tried again with my desktop and it crashed. I need more RAM and I was only using about 200 six Meg pix images.

2 questions...1. How did you enlarge the node boxes...2. How do you get the grid table on the right? I only have circles ang no xyz settings
@BlenderRookie5 жыл бұрын
You can zoom in and out with the mouse scroll wheel. There's probably key shortcut combination that will also do that but I don't know what it is. As far as the "grid table", I assume you mean the top right panel where the model appears, that was always there in mine and I think the only way it can be hidden is to drag the divider line between that panel and another until that panel is pushed off to the side. So if yours is missing, I would assume it the divider line between panels was dragged to the edge.

I've very new to this... like I've never used a 3D program in my life, I started today... I got as far as importing the obj file into blender but the next step you take is pressing ''3'' to enter sideview, that doesn't work for me and I can find how to do it anywhere else. Is it a short cut you have set up? Thanks! Great vid tho, I'm delighted to have even gotten this far!
@bingobriano60214 жыл бұрын
actually I just figured out I was hitting the top row numbers instead of the number pad, but I've also just realised the layout of Blender looks completely different, I believe I'm on a later version now, v2.81a. I can't see what you clicked on for 'material view' and the windows on the left and right look very different. Any idea if I can turn on what you have here or if I need to just abandon this tutorial and find a newer version? I hope the former as I found your tutorial easy to follow. Thanks!
@BlenderRookie4 жыл бұрын
@@bingobriano6021 Yeah, the new version of Blende looks way different. 2.8 and newer are pretty much the same as each other and 2.6-2.79 are pretty much the same as each other. This tutorial doesn't teach you how to use Blender anyway. It just shows the meshroom part and then the importation into Blender. But it can be imported into most 3D programs. Blender has a high learning curve. You will not learn anything more than the basics of Blender in a week or even a month.

Dude please tell us how you clean up the model? Why did you cut that out? I dont even know what to search for....
@BlenderRookie5 жыл бұрын
The program I used to clean it up is called Blender. There are a lot of tutorials on how to use Blender. www.blender.org/ I cut out the parts I didn't need in order to make the model more useful and lower poly.

@@BlenderRookie Thank you, but I know it's Blender and what it's used for. Did you use knife or bisect? How did you box-select? My Blender won't let me box-select.
@BlenderRookie5 жыл бұрын
@@BigLRestInPeace All I did was select the object, press tab to go into edit mode and then press "B" to activate box select. But to get it to work right on this complicated of a mesh you will need to make these setting changes in this screen capture. The two settings are available in edit mode at the bottom of the 3D viewport. i.ibb.co/pz0ZLpT/Capture.png

Without actually seeing what you are talking about, I have no way of being able to make a suggestion. I will say this, the finished model as shown in meshroom doesn't look anywhere near as good as it does once it's opened in a program like Blender.

What if I recreate a low poly mesh on top of the high quality mesh then apply the high quality meshes texture to the the low quality mesh, would that work?
@BlenderRookie5 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would work quite like that. But I do think there is a setting in meshroom where you can limit the number of faces or polygons to a really low number so that it essentially created it as a low poly scan. But I have never tried to do that and I don't remember where that setting is at. I just remember it's in there somewhere.
@aussieraver71825 жыл бұрын
@@BlenderRookie Thanks for the reply, I'll be sure to edit the settings then because the high poly wouldn't be optimal for a game scene.
@BlenderRookie5 жыл бұрын
@@aussieraver7182 Yeah, the high poly is way way way way way too many polys for games.
@BlenderRookie4 жыл бұрын
Actually you can create a high poly version and use the texture from it and then bake it to a low poly mesh. I now know it can be done because I saw someone do it recently in this video. I think it's about half way through. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnzSYaWNjbt0osU

There should be an option to use video.
@BlenderRookie4 жыл бұрын
You can, you just need to convert your video to images.
@NorthernXY4 жыл бұрын
@@BlenderRookie I meant skipping that step. Can't imagine it'd be hard as it's basically the same thing, video editors automatically break it down into frames, aka pictures. I'm trying to do it with land through Google Maps so I can build a castle with Blender (1 month old rookie) on a local spot I'd build it at if I could. It's a lot more fun designing castles on actual land, you don't get to have a fantasy location. Would be easier to just move around recording than constantly starting and stopping.

@@NorthernXY Look into 3d zephyr. They have a free version(last time I looked) and if I remember correctly, they do allow for video.
@NorthernXY4 жыл бұрын
@@BlenderRookie I'll look into it. The worst thing about beginning is not knowing where to begin. Unfortunately the free version has a very small limit on size of files. Ended up taking 90 photos of the spot in Google Maps, meshed files was ~300 MB and photorealistic.

do you need to use BLENDER.. can you just use the MESHROOM... i loaded in many pics to my meshroom version, but when i loaded the model it still looks un recognizable to what i photographed.
@BlenderRookie4 жыл бұрын
The only thing Meshroom does is create a 3D mesh and texture the mesh. You can open it in pretty much any 3D editing software. A lot of people use Blender because it's free and as good as many that cost $100s. As far as what's going on with yours, I can't even guess.
