Two gotchas: protected 18650s sometimes don't fit, and there's 2 versions of that display with different pinout orders. I think the ground and Vcc are swapped on the incorrect one so it can't be soldered directly. If I have enough time (which I never seem to) I will try and make a video to supplement @Meshtastics fantastic videos going through some of the confusions with channels, total flood routing, and the terminology (e.g. "modules").

Thanks for this quick tutorial. Bought my ttgo t beam from lilygo on aliexpress. It came with the firmware pre-installed, but the middle button and the gps weren't working until I reflashed the stock firmware manually. And for the record, the soldering WAS a pain in the ass 😅
@diyrenewableenergyelectron49963 жыл бұрын
That sucks that you had to reflash it, I'm guessing theyve made some pretty big updates lately. I actually just found 2 t-beams I ordered and forgot about (I have problems lol) and get to join in on the soldering fun! What solder did you use? Lead is bad to eat but it is amazing to solder with! Thanks for watching! 😀
@stealingfire50363 жыл бұрын
@@diyrenewableenergyelectron4996 It was some cheapo "lead-free rosin core electrical solder" I got in a kit with the soldering iron. The solder liked sticking to the iron way more than any of the pins though. Had to scrape the melted solder on with a knife. In hindsight, I think I was supposed to "tin the tip" of the iron in the first place... Came out pretty janky, but it works! 👌
@diyrenewableenergyelectron49963 жыл бұрын
I've used the lead-free stuff and it usually has a higher melting point than the solder with lead. I soldered a battery together a while back and almost threw the iron through a wall. It was terrible. I'm a fan of rosin core solder with lead. Tinning the tip definitely helps! I like to heat the tip, add a bunch of solder then wipe the tip on a damp paper towel. It leaves a nice coating of solder without having giant blobs that want to make a huge mess. Glad to hear you got it up and running!

You can try reflashing the t-beam and see if it works but I haven’t flashed a T-beam yet to know the exact process. It should be the same as the boards I showed but you just select the t-beam firmware. Let me know if you get it working!

is, there now a global channel, where all can get messages ... ? if you come in range ...
@diyrenewableenergyelectron49963 жыл бұрын
By default if you don't change the channel any radios that come in range will automatically connect. So if you just flash the firmware onto the radios like I did in the video it is sort of like a global channel. Thanks for watching!

Instead of using phones/apps, it there a way to use this to make sensors work across a distance and then send to my mqtt on my raspberry pi?
@diyrenewableenergyelectron49963 жыл бұрын
I think you would need a different messaging system. I don’t see why the LoRa modules wouldn’t work, but I can’t think of an off-the-shelf software that would work the way you described. Hopefully someone else can chime in with an option for you! Thanks for watching!
