My DC800 has no binding it's just straight wood on wood. When I talked to the guy at Carvin he told me that he got his bass coated with Tung Oil and he wished he wouldn't have. He said it doesn't protect the instrument well enough. I'm not sure if the Satin Matte finish will gloss over time but I can tell you it's a great finish for a natural wood guitar. The wood looks very nice.

I use the stock Carvin string set because the way this guitar was setup by the factory was amazing and I didn't want to mess with it at all. I tune to F# Standard, this cover is in F standard, and my string gauges are as follows: 68 - 56 - 46 - 36 - 26 - 17 - 13 - 10 It can be a little floppy tuned down a half step to F standard but for F# standard it feels great and it has a very clear tone.

The string bends... Quarter to half step, whole step too. All subtle. Sick. And they have 2 guitars and a bass doing it perfectly together. And that guitar is a work of art, it’s absolutely superb. I thought my 7 string Jackson was dope, and it is, but that thing is a museum piece. 8 string guitars are awesome if you know how to utilize them, they are so new most don’t know how to play them and make them sound awesome except this kind of music or jazz.

Meshuggah's bass player plays in the same octave as the guitars and it sure sounds different. Even though he rarely doesn't follow the guitars, the bass still occupies a different sonic space. Pickups and scale length has a huge impact on tone.
