When you look at Diana’s yodeling I would suggest Rechenka before yodel time. Rechenka is magical with a far greater range of techniques and voice qualities to interpret including her special yodel. She was just 14yo but truly delivered a world class and hauntingly beautiful performance.

This song was one of biggest hits of the 1990s in Russia. The original performer, Linda, sang the melody line virtually without inflections, as a deliberate artistic choice. Diana and her collaborators really gave it a second birth here. Good to see my translation came in handy! This is the best reaction/analysis of this performance I've seen. Thanks for your work!

Hi Liza, thank you for your intelligent, enthusiastic and enjoyable reaction. In Russia someone who is different is often referred to as a white crow. Hence the normal black crow dancers whilst Diana wears white. Someone mentioned Rechenka. Diana was 14 years old, does some yodeling and this performance really launched her career. A lot of singers really shy away from their break. Not Diana. She embraces that tightrope walk. This performance, in many ways, is like the sequel to her Rechenka performance. Same very ethnic mood. About the song itself; “White crow” is a Russian term for a person who stands out in an unusual way. It has a dual meaning for someone of exceptional ability and for an outsider who doesn't fit in. You can see by the costumes/staging that Diana is the White Crow.

Greetings from Scotland! A very strong performance isn't it! Diana performed 9 songs throughout this contest. All different genres and styles which Diana not only adapted to, but excelled at! Being (by far) the youngest contestant, Diana exploded into this contest with a rendition of an old Elvis song, SO different, it could easily qualify as a new song! This 18yo girl learned to interact with dancers, big productions, adapting to many different songs, amongst 8 very seasoned contestants! At the same time continuing to hold her own concerts, recording her album, even travelling to other countries at their request to sing! However, as Diana always does, she showed everyone that she was also a seasoned performer, winning the contest convincingly! Diana has a great philosophy - never give up, believe in yourself and follow your dreams! An inspiration to us all! 👏👏🙏🙏🎅🎅😊 --------- Привет из Шотландии! Очень сильное выступление, не правда ли! В рамках этого конкурса Диана исполнила 9 песен. Все разные жанры и стили, к которым Диана не только адаптировалась, но и преуспела в этом! This song was embracing her own image, as opposed to what a female lead was "supposed" to look like at the time. Diana has always had an otherworldly aura, with her almost polyphonic contralto and old eyes in a face that otherwise looks even younger than it is. "You are like them, but I am like the crow" (a symbol of death) has an even stronger resonance with her tragic childhood and year full of loss in her adopted family. But she isn't one of the flock: she is the white crow, and clearly controlling the rest with the power of her enchanting voice. It's a surprisingly nuanced and layered performance from a teen, especially to pack all that meaning into a short live contest!

Если бы не раскрученность Анкудиновой , которую блогеры передают друг другу как диковинку, то не факт , что она смогла бы собрать аудиторию хотя бы средней звезды. Да и к популярности это мало относится. Посмотрят- да, послушают- да, но петь и танцевать будут под других. Но это мое сугубо мнение. Просто меня удивляет, что обычно к такому периоду известности человеку никто практически не создал песен, именно своих песен. Интересно, а на каверах можно въехать в историю? Посмотрим.

@Lubov Zemlya Понятие шедевра, тоже вещь относительная. Для одних и "Черный квадрат" Малевича - шедевр. А для других просто - хрень . Анкудинова - порождение современной эпохи, ее отражение. Абсолютное. С ее каверами , переделками , своим видением и переложением старого. С изменениями устоявшихся основ всего, внешности, голоса, движения поведения . С диковинным голосом. Не прекрасным, а именно диковинным. Необычное тоже бывает притягательным, а для некоторых становится и культом. Но в целом помнить , петь и танцевать будут под других исполнителей. Но это всего лишь сугубо мое личное мнение. ( меня лишь задело , когда люди считают многие песни ею исполненные, ее песнями, а это не так)

The musical arranger for this was the same man who helped with the arrangements for her earlier masterpieces Wicked game and Rechenka from her early teens on the You are Super show...again by HTB but all but this one and her last Own personal jesus, performance are available on her site unblocked and subtitled. I hope your reaction was natural ..it is a very much a Diana show performance...so has to be short. The styling and dancers were by this stage able to dial in their input to suit her style. Though she was in studio for early morning she didnt get to record this till after midnight, still a defining performance for this 18 yr old.. and one that carried her through to an overall win as well as wining this week. Shes just dropped an album in Russian ...very smooth ..and done a wonderful for fun live solo improvised version of kelio's Down we go . She gets an authentic really bluesy sound going...😎💙🔥

Russia can be proud to have artists at this level. I know Diana for quite some time now. For us (westerners) are the techniques that she uses quite special. However, where she comes from it is more "normal". However, the level on which she uses these techniques is extra ordinary. Every time when I see and hear her perform she amazes me. She really goes deep into the music. This is true love for what she does.

Another enlightening reaction. The yodel technique on display here is particularly strong in "Rechenka" (The River) from a few years back. Beautiful performance and production. I'm still hoping you'll take a risk and react to Jinjer's "Wallflower". Definitely worth having the lyrics to hand - and maybe a strong drink. Jinjer's vocalist is Tatiana, she has a wide range of vocal techniques and pours her soul into her sound. I think you'd have fun reacting to the song.
