You know one of the many reasons why I love this song so much? I've never been in a relationship before so I can never relate to the countless mushy love and crushing heartbreak songs that are out there. But this? I relate to every single line, every single word. I am currently self-diagnosed with ADHD and likely will never have the money to get a proper diagnosis and medical treatment, not to mention my mom thinks "everyone has a little bit of ADHD in us, you're just lazy and undisciplined." Not to mention I was homeschooled growing up and don't have very many friends, so I never had any emotional support circle to help me with my ADHD symptoms. I cried listening to this song for the first time, because for once, I know I am not alone in the world. Thank you, Peggy, for blessing my ears with this magical song and for opening the door into a community of people who DO understand.

Self-diagnosis is valid, and can be quite helpful. To your mom's comment, I get the same. But like, anxiety and depression are also diagnoses? Everyone experiences anxiety and depression, so when does it become a diagnosis? When there's too much, when it's a problem. That's what ADHD is, too much of these symptoms to the point of actively inhibiting everyday life. It's a problem, you're not lazy, you have executive dysfunction, you're not undisciplined, your brain literally cannot regulate properly. Even having the normal amount of dopamine to function is something we lack, which is why we chase dopamine hits all the time. Your mother is, unfortunately, willfully obtuse and oblivious.

@@themorbiddoll the thing is, anxiety and depression are the names of the disorders, everyone feels the emotion 'anxious' and everyone feels 'depressed' but anxiety and depression are different unless they mean 'a state of depression' or 'a state of anxiety'

@@cacky_moon Firstly, that's what I said, everyone can experience these things, it becomes a diagnosis when there's too much of it, when it's chronic vs when it's infrequent. But the problem comes when people are dismissive of those with chronic illness just because they feel it infrequently.

you just should respect yourself nothing more and nothing less. every human being or kid is different and has its own qualities. you don't need to depend on stupid nowadays diagnoses that are just made to lock up humans into some capsules and provide them fake reassurance, adhd, melancholy etc etc - trash of modern society. just do your best in the things you like to do and you have qualities to improve. wish you happy and productive life, no need to compare yourself to others to the point of not realizing your own values. x)

I was recently diagnosed with autism and ADHD, but I have suffered all my life and it has affected all areas without exception. The lyrics to your song are exactly everything I said at the therapist appointment. I don't feel ashamed of my diagnosis, I just feel like it's hard to deal with making mistakes I shouldn't at my age.
