In the fourth episode of Easy Portuguese, Juliana is asking people what message they would say if they could go back in time and meet their 20-year-old selves!
Easy Languages is a non-profit video project aiming at supporting people worldwide to learn languages through authentic street interviews. I am currently learning Portuguese as a part of a international project, with a teacher from São Paulo, so I enjoyed this a lot! However, I would like that the camera work is done a bit more carefully next time, a few times the speakers were out of focus and I found it a bit distracting. nevertheless, great job! can't wait for next episode!

"O que você sabe hoje que não sabia aos 20 anos?" Hoje eu diria a mim mesmo aos 20 que você não pode mudar o mundo. Você só pode mudar a si mesmo. E isso está bem! Você deve encontrar uma comunidade, participar dessa comunidade e trabalhar duro para aprender com essa comunidade e fazer uma contribuição positiva para essa comunidade. Não viaje pelo mundo tentando mudar comunidades das quais você não faz parte. Você pode fazer a maior diferença em seu próprio quintal.

Agora tenho vinte e um anos, mas acho que se eu tivesse quarenta anos e estivesse refletindo na minha vida, eu provavelmente diria a si mesmo todas as coisas que as pessoas no vídeo dissem. Mesmo assim, acho que nossos erros são o que nos ajudam melhorar. Errar é como as pessoas aprendem, acho.

Vídeo muito legal!!! Me fez pensar bastante!! Bom, eu tenho 26, quase 27, e me arrependo de não ter feito muitas coisas aos 20 anos que me atrapalham agora, apesar do curto espaço de tempo que passou, como ingressar numa universidade naquela época, estudar um outro idioma, começar a poupar mais dinheiro e também ter tomado coragem e talvez ter investido mais em relacionamento. Entretanto, acredito que graças a tudo isso que não fiz aos 20 é que pude me tornar a pessoa que sou hoje, é óbvio, fica um pouco de arrependimento, mas isso passa se perceber que o que você é se deve a essas experiências que teve, ou não, em sua vida. É só aprender com o passado e, a partir de agora, fazer aquilo que faltou, porque nunca é tarde para muitas coisas. Hoje já estou no último ano da faculdade, estudei inglês e espanhol, aprendi a poupar dinheiro e os demais planos que não pus em prática ainda estão na fila das próximas tarefas a fazer.

Please continue making these videos! I am learning Portuguese, and my greatest obstacle is comprehension. The way you subtitle these in both Portuguese and English is very, very helpful. I watch and listen to each lesson multiple times. ...First reading the english as i listen. Then I listen to the speaker and read in Portuguese, trying to hear how each word is pronounced. Finally, I just listen to the speaker and try to understand. It's the best practice i've found for comprehension. Also, the woman at 2:50 is absolutely adorable!

aos vinte anos eu estive no brasil mesmo, passeando pelo nordeste e pelo rio amazonas de barco. Agora q faco trinta anos, a soh coisa q me arrependo desse tempo eh de terminar a viagem cedo demais. Another mistake is at 4:43 where the man says, "Olha, eu vou me basear para responder, né..." He is saying, look, I'll base my answer on... The video's translation doesn't make sense.

Sorry, but this translation is a bit off here at 4:23 'Tanto .... quanto....' means 'both... and...' So that sentence would become: 'I would advise myself to dedicate more to both studies and sports'

The video has the wrong translation at 4:25 of a man saying, "Eu me aconselharia a me dedicar mais tanto aos estudos quanto ao esporte." He is saying what you would guess, that he would advise (his younger self) to dedicate himself as much to his studies as to sports (the video says "more even to studies, such as to sport" which does not make sense).

I'm 31 now and if there is something I wanted to say to the 20's me then it would be : "There's no need to changes a single things. Just be what and who you are." that's it. Because I know I've done my best and I learn to accepted the way I am, good or bad. Everything's is perfect in their imperfect so, love your own self and do things the best at your own way, thus you wouldn't have any regret for the past ^^. some peoples may think 'I didn't do my best' but, what is it 'do my best'..? for me it's : doing it the way you can, not forcing things because everything's also have their own limited so just enjoy it. :)
