L'une des œuvres que je mets devant toutes les autres. Merci à Matias Tozzola pour avoir eu l'idée totalement folle de la transcrire, et à Edith Pageaud pour nous la faire partager avec inspiration.

I love this movement. When I was in college studying music, Messiaen was brought up in my theory class and, being a cellist who was friends with a pianist in the class, we got permission from our professor to play it for the other students. It killed my right arm to play it (it requires a LOT of endurance!!!), but it's just a remarkably understated beautiful work. And, it seems so fitting, in my small opinion, that the harmonies are so strange, because Christ is strange and mysterious and beautiful... there's a holy madness and love being described in this work... and that is made even more clear knowing that Messiaen wrote it while in a concentration camp. It's similar, in that sense, with Tavener's Protecting Veil, with that beauty and ecstasy in devotion to something not of this world. Gives me the chills thinking about it.

Happy to read that you also have a deep love for this piece :) all the best
@giovannipeirone39154 ай бұрын
A perfect control here is an instrument of a sharp intelligence that reads each piece as a whole and in detail, in turn at the service of a deep sensitivity: it is extremely difficult to move through the complex work of the great Messiaen: she succeeds and makes one feel the aura of living mystery of the piece.

If I were a guitar string, I'd surely find contentment being strung across Edith's guitar... When my turn to be plucked comes, I would resonate to whatever wavelength she makes me. I would shiver from her touch. Heating the air around me ever so slightly as molecules cascade outwardly like a supernova of sound. That guitar has the good life.

this is the first comment I've ever taken the time to dislike
@paulsaulpaul4 ай бұрын
If I were a youtube comment, I'd exist only as a disembodied string of bits of bytes in a database. I would eagerly await the moment that @@haris7798's web browser renders the one page out of billions that I exist on. Like a serendipitous encounter with my true love, I would suddenly be made complete. Shown to the world near the bottom of the comment section, I'd thirst for their approval that would only come by the click of a thumbs up button. But what if the click was on the down thumb? Would I not find validation from another? Does every rose have a thorn? Did every thorn once have a rose? Do all dogs not have their days? Will I ever get my day that I might appear at the top of the comment list without sorting by newest first? Nary do I wither away hoping for eyes that scroll far to the bottom. Indeed, comment engagement in the form of replies means so much more than a casual click of the thumb. While my true love once upon a morrow took their time to actually dislike a comment, they surely took more time to read it and respond. My true love has satisfied my yearning desire for increased comment visibility.

Quatuor pour la fin ........ is one of my favourites. Hard to believe I could like a re-orchestration, but I do. Your guitar makes the 'cello sound dull! 👏👏🎉🎉

Not that hard to believe, just taking into account that this same movement of the Quatuor is really an arrangement of a previous piece for ondes Martenot sextet 😉

Very Barrios like, more modern in its harmonies though. Pretty sparse and bleak mood except for the majorish turn at the end. Beautiful playing. Wish my tremolo was as precise.

: You don't really hear whole tone work on a guitar all that often, but this is a great example of what those kinds of scales can do, making this interpretation kinda like an etude. It's pretty sick.

No sueña bien.
@trueconextionmusic77076 ай бұрын
While the playing is impressive, I'm not sure how I feel about this piece. I'm used to Messian on the piano, but on the guitar it feels totally different.
