Messing Around with AI: Cursor the AI Code Editor

First look at Cursor, the AI powered code editor. It is built on VSCode / JetBrains and powered by GPT4. I put it through its paces building a real Flutter for web app called “Objective List” - from nothing to working MVP. The end result is that I immediately sign up for the $20 / month paid plan because I am so impressed with the tool’s performance. I repeatedly gush about the capabilities of Cursor, and I stand by that first impression.

@ContextFound The Cursor interface doesn't seem to have the "New AI Project..." option under File any longer. Having trouble getting it to generate an entire codebase as you did in your video as a result. Any idea how it's supposed to be done now?

Yeah, was really disappointed about that too - but I used the side chat to request "setup a new flutter project that does X" and it did a lot of the same magic. I think that was how I kicked it off. I actually gave the company feedback because that was such a differentiator.

There are so many list of "top AI assistant for coding", and at best cursor is one on the list, but sometimes missing. The people who make these list "test" these tools, they don't actually use these tool (like 10 hours a day). Cursor is way above and beyond anything else, but is getting so little attention. They need a much better marketing department (PR, make you tube video, etc...)

Agreed - you see demos of Google's IDE integration of Gemini and you feel how far ahead Cursor is.
