I’m someone with adhd, and Ocpd with hoarding tendencies. The best advice anyone has ever given me is “don’t put it down, put it away” it has been a total game changer in the way I clean, and because of this mantra, getting rid of trash, and clutter is so much easier

My old boss taught me something similar. Her version was "Do it right the first time so that you don't have to touch it again". Like why set junk mail on the table when it needs to go straight to the trash? Just throw it away! Lol 😆

Yes!! Put it away immediately. That’s the one thing that helped me the most. I used to be to tired, but then I was always too tired to do it later. A game changer!! Only takes a short while to make this a habit.

A French blogger I follow called this “finishing the movement.” I think of that often, when I’m like 'I’ll put this over there later', my immediate thought is: finish the movement then you don’t have to think about it again.

I am a life coach. I could see your emotional energy from the very beginning was low. You mentioned shame and I think that is a key word. If you want to let the house go for a while, that is your choice. There is no shame in that. It isn't your identity or who you are if you choose to be lazy or have fun sometimes. Good habits don't come easy for most of us. You aren't doing any thing wrong. However, if you keep up on things and don't do it all in one day, it may not seem so burdensome. Some people prefer to do it all in one day. I have truly been impressed with you in your videos. Give your self a pat on the back and some slack girl. : ) You are NOT alone. : ) Thanks for motivating me and others.

Slice Of Advice, try not to keep dishes in The Sink overnight. The reason why is that it can produce bacteria and ants. I love dishwashing, as strange as it sounds. Also they say that when you come home from Holiday, it's paradise to come home to a clean house.

I invest 30min everyday to clean up, when I get thoughts of being too lazy and that I have "no energy left for cleaning" then 1. I remind myself to be thankful for having such nice things, so I put much more love into the process of cleaning and putting things away 2. I know that my thoughts are only from my EGO that tries to save energy, it is part of our survival instinct, like the birds that are sometimes too lazy to fly 😅 3. I visualize the outcome and how good I feel in a tidy space, this produce dopamine in the brain, and dopamine is important for motivation 😉 4. I watch cleaning videos, and I love your video it is very motivating thank you 🤗

I love the cut and style of your apartment, it looks so cozy. I could imagine myself moving in there right now. For keeping a clean house I quite liked the comment on how you grew up. My mom worked full time as well but when she was at home she always scolded me to never leave a room empty handed and as much as I hated it back then, it saves a lot of work now. During the day I collect all kind of items like hair ties, a mug and spoon, a blanket etc and just carry them with me when I leave one room to go to another one. They might not be cleaned or put away immediately but at least everything is in the right room and putting it away at night gets a lot easier

This is motivating me to clean my kitchen! Also, idk if you ever got a new vacuum, but one thing that helps me with my two cats and their fur is a robot vacuum. I usually run it once every other day, and since it needs space to run, that usually motivates me to also organize/clean up clutter so it can move around. Helps with their fur, cat litter, and generally keeps my hardwood floors clean.

I do have one tip that has worked for me: as a single woman, I downsized to 1 dinner plate, 1 bowl, 1 dessert plate, 1 fork, 1 spoon, 1 knife. Carla I feel so seen. Like you I live in a small apartment just me and a cat, but I find I can turn the place upside down in the blink of an eye. It gets easier to find a routine the more times I restart, but life happens sometimes laundry is backed up, my bed is not made, bottles left out in the bathroom. It is my kitchen like you that I struggle with most. Reducing my cook wear and plates have helped because I have to wash them up to be able to cook again. On the vacuum front don’t buy cheap, (mistake I made twice) invest in a decent one it will be a game changer. Tidying Little and often helps too. Clean becomes easier then as it is easier to wipe a cleared area/surface. There is no magic answer you’re doing great x

Thank you so much Laura! That is exactly it ..I can turn my place upside down in the blink of an eye! And you know what.. I bought a cheap vacuum about six months ago and it was a total waste of money. Then I bought my handheld vacuum which is powerful but I now realize I should’ve just invested in a good vacuum that had a detachable handheld portion. I’ll definitely get one before the end of the year. Little by little it’s getting better ☺️❤️

I love your videos! I also grew up without chores and our home was often very dirty and messy. I’m learning as an adult to create my routines for around the house. The most important thing I’ve learned is that the more stuff you have the more you have to clean. So I’ve decluttered my home down to the minimum. Also throwing trash in the trashcan as you cook and putting away things when you’re done using them is a good way of keeping your home tidy. Love to see a mess on youtube being cleaned up so thank you for being messy haha! Thank you for sharing everyday life with us 🙂

This was just the video I needed to keep going with finishing up some decluttering mess that now needs to be organized and put away! Thank you! Also, I totally get needing to learn a good cleaning schedule. For me, it was the opposite issue growing up, my mother was very strict and everything had to be done in her way and fast, which I never was because I didn't know how she was doing things and she didn't have the patience to teach me. So even if I had to clean something, she'd always get mad and redo it so once I moved out, I just poof! Stopped all attempts at regular cleanings until very very recently. But you got this down so well! If I had that two options of the living room or the bathroom, I would have chosen to take a nap, haha! Also, can't believe your doggo would cook so much, leave a mess and not even share the meals he made with you! :D

I cleared my flat surfaces in my bathroom, everything fits into a cupboard on lazy Susan’s so my flat surfaces are clear except for one bar of soap for washing hands. Before bed I swish the toilet with the toilet brush and wipe all flat surfaces with one baby wipe and throw it away. Timed it and it takes exactly one minute! I’m old now and don’t have a lot of energy but I wish I had figured this out when I was younger. What a simplified timesaver.

@@TheCarlaProject wow thank you very much! I really enjoy your videos and have decluttered so much I have nothing left to get rid of but when I saw this latest video of yours I wanted to come over and help you dig out! To clean up a mess like you had is an adrenaline rush because of the contrast between before and after. It’s maintaining it that is hard because it’s boring and when you look back at what you accomplished it really doesn’t look that much different, cleaner yes, but nothing that screams “look at me I’m so clean now” just a little ”ho hum, I’m clean but I was pretty clean already so it doesn’t make much difference” I’m always maintaining my house which is good because I keep things up and am too old for big projects but I remember younger days when I did what you do, big jobs, big contrast, and I envy your youth, your energy and your zest for daily living. But in my heart I’m right there with you doing all those wonderful projects.

Your message about how its okay to not be perfect really resonated with me! :D I've been trying to stick to laundry every Thursday and cleaning every Friday. I let it go of course and I'm inconsistent about dishes for sure! Random but your shower curtain is soooooo pretty. I saw some other people mention "Don't put it down...put it away" I heard this on Tik Tok too so that it doesn't start getting messy again so quickly...odd but surprisingly helpful lol. Ok ok ... you've motivated me to stick to my cleaning schedule tomorrow haha THANK YOU :))

Oh I loooove turbo speed😂We need a turbo speed button in real life. We have a 1 bedroom too and it takes me 1 hour to vacuum, mop the floors, clean the bathroom and kitchen and dust. I think it's so fast bc everything is already in its place to begin with. So like minimalism first, change daily habits second. I think it was Joshua Becker who said if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it right away. You are doing great Carla!! It's a journey🛵

Chris!! You just affirmed what I have been thinking all along. my first goal is to get to a decluttered state and then make sure my remaining items have a home and then get into cleaning routines!! YAY I feel like I'm on the right track. And can we please get that turbo speed button (at least for cleaning hahaha)!

I went through what I call a "Depressive Mess" which lasted for about a year and a half and I just spent 3 full days cleaning my 24m² appartment and it doesn't feel like I'm in the same place, it's really like I moved and it's not the same appartment. 12x 50L trash bags in total... damn... Watching your video after doing it myself really put a smile on my face, it really is satisfying :) EDIT : Forgot something about the Depressive Mess

I am very happy with my cordless and bagless dyson vacume cleaner. I have the V10 (I think) and it is very good for pet hair. You can hang it on a wall so it doesn't take up any floor space. The not so good thing is that it is expensive.

I hate, hate, HATE doing the dishes! So watching you doing them from the comfort of my couch in 2x speed, really is magical xD And just like you, I kept beating myself up over how messy my kitchen/home gets the second after I just cleaned it. I also don't have a routine I can stick with...but like you said, we're all right! We're not bad people just because our kitchen is filthy, haha.. so thank you so so much for this! It's always great to see that I'm not the only one doing this:) And, I'm proud of you that you worked through those 4 hours, you did an amazing job love

The struggle is real, I try to have routines but sticking to them is another thing. If we had routines the time it would save us. You did a great job Carla your house looks lovely. I try to have no dishes in the sink before I start dinner then wash them up as I go. I also find that doing them as soon as I finish eating helps I hate waking up to a sink full of dishes. The Sunday Stylist is another one that has some great ideas on routines, storage in small units etc.

I'm trying a new schedule this week and seeing if i can stick to making, eating and cleaning up my meal all in one time block. I agree it is so much easier to do the dishes as soon as you're done eating and even while cooking!! I subbed to sunday stylist but never see her vids... gonna go save a few now! thanks jackie!
