My best friend and I fell out over my ADHD. Long story short, her daughter was diagnosed with ADHD a few years after we stopped talking. As she was learning about it, she realized that her frustration with me, thinking I was lazy or didn't care, was ADHD. Although our relationship was just too fractured to repair, she apologized and knew that I was actually doing my best. I would suggest finding a video that she can relate to and can teach her how to help you. Just like we don't understand why we do things, the people around us don't either. I'm sure your mom loves you and wants the best for you.😊

Hi Remi! I'm the gal who left a comment a week or two ago about finding you early in the morning and having to get to sleep lol well, not only did I come back and watch that video, I kinda obsessively watched several more. What I'd like to tell you though is about my bathtub. Sounds simple and silly but as you yourself seem to understand, the simple and silly can be the hardest. Our town has mineral rich water and turns everything from orange to almost a black mold look. We have gone through so many sickness spells here that everyone had been using the tub non stop. Besides needing cleaned, the tub needed re caulking as well. For some reason, every time my kids were in the tub, the guilt and overwhelm would hit so much harder. I hated for them to be in something looking like that. The more guilt I felt, the more paralyzed I became about doing it. My younger son has severe asthma and I had to do it while he was at preschool so any fumes wouldn't bother him and the clock was ticking because he'd be out for summer soon. So one day, I started watching a video of yours and I decided from something you said, probably start small, or just with one part. That's what I did. I decided I'd just wipe the sides. Not use cleaner or strip the caulking, just a wet wipe while listening to your video. But the funniest thing happened. Between listening to you and just starting, I had momentum. Not only did I wipe, I stripped the caulking, I got out my power scrubber, I cleaned and re caulked. My tub is sparkling still!! It makes me so proud when I walk into the bathroom and see it. All of this just to say, thank you. It's not just the cleaning. It's the relatability. It's the permission you give to not be perfect. That you aren't a bad person when things look a certain way. You are magic ✨ Sending so much love 💕

You are making so much sense…from I have to remember to brush my teeth to bouncing from room to room. Sometimes I can set a timer and stay at one task or one room but most often I flit from room to room. I often “give up” because I don’t see the progress and get overwhelmed. I am late 60’s and raising three grandchildren, two of which are developmentally delayed and autistic. You cannot take your eyes off the youngest (almost 10) as he will bounce from thing to thing, or room to room, making mess after mess. I can walk in the kitchen and see the pantry doors are open and he is eating a bag of cookies while also leaving the fridge and freezer doors open, trash and food and toys all over the floor and furniture. All on the two minutes it took me to go to the bathroom. I am exhausted most days and overwhelmed and paralyzed by the magnitude of it all. I make grand plans in my head of what I need to get done but it usually doesnt come to fruition. Thank you for giving me permission to bounce from room to room and back again for o get it done. A little or moderate amount of progress is better than no progress.

I'm actually crying right now. I feel so validated! I'm 48 and have ADHD. What you said in this video was the story of my entire life! I had always been told that I needed to focus on one area at a time and that bouncing around from room to room meant I wasn't getting anything done. This video proved them all wrong! I'd already been learning, slowly, that I don't have to do all the dishes at one time and I don't have to put away the clean laundry the same day I washed it. But this just helped me realize I've been on the right path all along! Thank you so, so much! 💖

Try placing a dirty clothes hamper in each room so they don’t have to be piled on the floors. Then you can take the hampers down to the washer.
@lovefortruth34146 ай бұрын
@katy8792 that's what I do. I actually use laundry sorters on wheels with hanging detachable bags, so I can choose to either roll the whole sorter (I'm on one floor), or just Take whichever bag want to do. Each sorter only has 2 bags, so our laundry is divided into bleach ables and non-bleachables. It's that easy. The only sorting that's done is we just toss each clothing item into the proper sorter when we get changed. I watch h for super delicate and hand wash items and leave them in the sorter intil I'm ready to fo the hand washable. Also, I even repursed the cute little canvas bagg thst my new dish cloths came in, found a spot in the kitchen to hang it in, and I use that as my kitchen linens laundry bag. I have a spot to hang the cloths if they're wet, let them dry, then put them in the bag. When the bag is full, it's time to run a load. Can you tell I hate sorting piles of laundry? Lol

My sisters and I joke that this is how we clean our own houses. Bouncing from room to room because you make the bed, and take the sheets to the washing machine, and see clothes ready in the dryer. So you stop and fold those clothes and deliver to a bedroom where you find dishes so you take those to the kitchen and realize you need to empty clean dishes from the dishwasher. Next thing I know , I am redoing my kitchen cabinets and starting a donation box of old coffee mugs. We call it “ when you give a mouse a cookie” cleaning from the Laura J Nemeroff book.

@reefprayerresin typical adhd people think of the young boy bouncing around the classroom. Won't sit still. Jumping up to the window because something went by the window. Sits down.. only to jump up again... chattering.. general disturbance in class. Girls/ women are not generally the physically bouncy... It presents with constant scattered thoughts and tasks left half completed. Non-typical That is why it isn't diagnosed in girls as often... because like all fields of medicine... it is aimed at boys/ men. Ex... women that have heart attacks do not generally present with crushing chest pain/ or pain that radiates down the left arm. Those are typical MALE symptoms! Women can have severe indigestion. Pain in the back. Profuse sweating... ( can be confused with hot flashes) Non-typical symptoms.
@gingersnapjudy5 ай бұрын
@reefprayerresin I thought I had responded to your comment but I think I deleted it by accident. Cardiac symptoms are also non-typical in women... usually no crushing chest pain or pain radiating down left arm. Back pain, indigestion, profuse sweating... which can easily be confused with hot flashes. Most medical is based on men. So women issues are overlooked.

So glad your mum gave the children chores. We, too, were expected to clean up after ourselves. My mum would never do the cleaning up and tidying i see in this video (messes made by kids). If we didn't clean up our toys, they disappeared for a while. We learned to appreciate them and also experience how much work it was to keep things tidy.

Funny, I found your comment just as she was discussing modelling for kids. I didnt have good modelling, and haven't improved much over time. I'm perfectly honest with my kids about what kind of human I am. They are taught that I need the help, and that I want them to get the practice I never had. They switch off once in a while, so they understand why a sibling is nagging about something (hard to wipe the table when someone didnt pick up their dishes). Not feeling like everything was on me, like Inwas drowning, I was able to make headway on my responsibilities. Now, I am looking at taking back some of the ones they really balk at, and letting them practice something new. At 10, 6, 6 and 38 we are all just beginning to learn what it takes to keep a home

My mom yelled at me throughout my life to clean more while not cleaning often herself. When I would clean she’d tell me how awful I was at whatever task I was busy with. Now as a 45 yr old I. Do not like to clean when my husband is home. I’m scared he’ll think I’m “doing it wrong” because I clean like this. Bouncing around from one room to the next taking forever. If only she would have been kind and patient and taught me like mothers are supposed to do. I’ve had lots of therapy and have come a long way. I also become overwhelmed seeing the entire list at once. So I plan on doing this first. I am starting my house now and I feel that I have a better outlook about my task. I thank you again. From Near, Birmingham,Alabama,USA. Ps, We are not racist here. ❤️

This method drove my brain crazy!! BUT... all 3 of my children and husband have brains like yours and not mine. When I took the time to really understand my husband's and my kids brain I understand why they seem like to me they are all over the place. My husband likened add or adhd to your brain being a TV and someone else has the remote changing the channels. Even though I can not relate I can understand and try to help them find ways to work around that. I think that's why I like your videos, other than me liking your personality, you are showing me ways I can help them. Lists have been a life saver for us. It's a team effort, my husband says an item he needs to do and I make him right then write it down or I write it down. He feels so accomplished when he marks things off. Bless you Remi.

You have no idea how much this helped me.... I'm 67 and I know I have a really bad ADHD. My house is beyond the beyond. When my kids were little I would make myself hyper-focus and I get one room clean; and in the meantime they would totally destroy the rest of the house. I didn't even hear them do it. I know that if somebody moves something, and it's not where I left it, I can't find it. Sometimes even if it's in plain sight. It sucks. But this was helpful, I know I can do this, at least as much as my asthma and my heart condition will let me. I am definitely encouraged and thank you!

Hi Remi, I just want to say I love what you do and how you do it. I am 57 and have in the last couple of years developed Peripheral Neuropathy possibly from auto immune malfunction from Covid Vax's. Anyway my whole world came crashing down around my ears, my favorite past times, travel, and keeping house. Things started getting on top of me. So I disappeared into the world of You Tube and like a beacon of light found your channel. You are an amazing woman, your upbeat sprightly style blended with a dose of real lfe chaos are a breath of freash air and helped me tackle my house hold chores, starting with one drawer or cupboard at a time. Slowly and surely I am having more rest which equals more energy which equals more satisfaction from completing little jobs...if you do enough little jobs the magic happens. So thank you xx keep being you...I love how you do your videos and feel privilaged to get to know your family too.❤

Dear Remi, I am so there at the moment, I am a 50 year old mom living in South Africa, I feel so overwhelmed since October last year, we've had to move to a new house and even now living in our beautiful house, I just cannot seem to get myself motivated to get everything unpacked and sorted. This video was a suggestion by YT, I feel more hopeful and I can absolutely see the benefit of this method clear as day. Thank you so very much for this video and your narration. I am definitely going to give this a try tomorrow. My problem is the experienced trauma during this past 9 months and lack of interest in anything and mostly anxiety due to my current state. I know for a fact that the minute I have accomplished anything it will turn my mindset around, but getting there is 80% of my struggle, I feel really crippled by anxiety, depression and helplesness at the moment.
@jeanvreeland31793 ай бұрын
I too have moved many times and it is overwhelming. I am in the same place right now. Moved back to an old apartment after being gone for 9 months, experienced trauma due to too many moves in my life, wondering if I will ever be settled. Sorting, putting things away, goodwill this, throw away that, it is overwhelming and never ending. Moving trauma paralyzes me. I've moved too many times, not that I wanted to, it was due to trauma, family events, divorce, financial difficulties, etc. Other people have beautiful organized homes and it is my dream, it is so hard for me, I become paralyzed and hope this video and this way of working will work for me. I hate cleaning and I hate clutter more, it is a mental health issue, and an ADHD issue and trauma related. I too feel crippled by anxiety, depression, and lack of energy and motivation. It is so hard for me, hopefully this method will help. Remi understands and explains how difficult it is for some of us so well, I never put it together, I just thought I was incompetent. I will try this method tomorrow and pray I can get through this! I realized it is more than cleaning and organizing, it is sorting out my life, my things, and it triggers memories of past moves and depresses me. Alot has to do with broken relationships, and it goes way deeper than cleaning, wow, learning a lot. Good luck to you, we will get through this, you are not alone.

I've been watching your videos for some months now and I finally mustered up the courage to say: thank you for doing them! I find myself nodding to the screen whenever you say "does anybody else feel this way?" haha. Coming from a household in which I was blamed by my mother in ways like "but how is it you CANNOT see the clutter/what needs to be cleaned?", I struggled to explain to her that I simply just... didn't see it. It didn't register into my brain. My ex-partner for 20 years was almost an exact copy of my mother in regards to these comments, and I always thought there was something fundamentally wrong in me and that I was an exception to an established normalcy. After being diagnosed with depression and currently checking if I might also have ADHD, I'm trying to accept myself and live my life in a way that works for me, and your videos are being a very big piece in this acceptance and understanding for this 41 y.o. person. Thank you so, so much, Remi.

Reading to your sons is fantastic, and I want to encourage you to keep it up. Their vocabulary is far ahead of their ability to read the smaller words in their current reading ability, if that makes sense. So, their comprehension will get so bored if they only read the limited list of words they are able to. You are encouraging, fantastic communication skills and ability to concentrate far more effectively than if you don’t read to them aloud. Well done, Remi!!!

I figured out awhile ago that I am definitely a ping pong cleaner. Like you describe, if I focus on only one room, it will never get done. If I ping pong, everything is a little bit better. I do get frustrated by it, though, because at some point I go back to the original thing and go, "Ugh, this is what I need to focus on." That's not every day, just when for some reason, something needs to get finished that day.

Remi, you literally helped me through washing up 2 days worth of dirty dishes. Thank you. I am so thankful for your videos. And I do see the mountains of progress you’ve made! My brain thinks exactly like you explained. My mom’s is the totally opposite. She would always say, “Pick up as you go along.” And guilt trip me. I tried and tried and tried and just couldn’t. I get so distracted and feel like I can’t do anything. And I burn out so easily. My brain shuts down and I can’t. But listening to you gets me in such a mood to clean. If I’m tempted to ignore the dishes when I know I should, I always come to you. I’m very easy overwhelmed (I have lymes disease which makes you so tired and irritable from the inflammation the lymes bacteria causes) and you not having music in your videos is so nice. One of my main issues with my house that I struggle with is where to put things because I don’t want to “see them“. I have begun to collect organizers and that is very helpful. If there's one thing I've realised along the way of life - like you - stripping yourself down with harsh words and ugliness doesn't bring you even one step closer to where you'd like to be. There is only one thing that works across the board to make a clean and tidy home easier to manage: get rid of stuff. We all have far too much in our homes. We've been conditioned our whole lives to buy in excess and it's a hard habit to break, and no matter how well you organise things, if you have too much, it gets messy again fast! I'm slowly working on getting rid of things and it's slowly making a difference. If our drawers and cabinets and closets are crammed full, we have too much stuff. If all the surfaces have things on them, we have too much stuff. If we bring new things in and don't get rid of something we already have, we're making it worse. It's not easy to get this part done, but I know it will absolutely make life easier!
@deirdremurray27506 ай бұрын
I agree. I’m 80 now and when I was a child we had very few “things” so it was easy to tidy up and put clothes away. We didn’t have a washing machine so clothes were washed by hand and mum would do that every few days. She would say that we only needed three of every item of clothing (except underwear) “one to wear, one in the cupboard and one in the wash” and our clothes were only washed when they were dirty. We changed our knickers every day but not all our clothes!

I use a compromise between jumping from task to task as described here and deep clean a room. I start in the tidiest room (e.g. the bathroom) and take everything out of this room that doesn't belong in it. I carry it to the right room, but just leave it there on the floor. Then I put everything in it´s right place in the bathroom. Then I go to the second tidiest room and carry on like this. Whenever I carry something into a room that has already been dealt with, I tidy it up straight away. Once all the rooms have been tidied up, the reward comes: vacuuming, because now that goes really quickly.

10:57 (So Remi I don’t comment often, there are many people here who say you changed their life, I am also one of them) I am one of your biggest fans 😁lol. You are definitely the person cleaning/organizing/tidying with me. Listening to you has led me to this method. Highly effective, and you don’t have to wait until things become to big to handle or you don’t even know where to begin, and it keeps getting worse and worse. (So this method of tidying never leaves me, I keep it in my head as often as possible until it becomes the permanent habit, your in a room what do you see that does not belong in that room, grab it and that item (or multiple items) is catching a ride to where it’s supposed to go.) Also while listening to you I began thinking (this was awhile back) perhaps there is fear within me, fear that I won’t have anything to do if the whole house is tidy and clean all the time (slowly I am concurring that fear). Also listening to you I realized each system is a gear apart of your house or living space. Take laundry for example, I made the gear work in my living space, but I found there is no way I physically can make that gear functioning properly if I have to keep other gears going daily. So I observed that thought, amazingly my husband did huge furniture changes and I thought that was the perfect time to change the laundry system. So instead of me being the 1 large temperamental gear that has to on occasion have an outsourced maintenance crew come in to help ;) lol. We now have several gears working daily on the laundry system, and they are small gears so the “work” load is not much for anyone, it’s apart of life and it’s manageable. I don’t know If I ever would have got to this level of thinking without listening to your channel, so thank you thank you thank you 🙏 you are so much appreciated. ❤

❤ You are delightful. I love listening to you chat “with me.“ Your delivery reminds me of what Mr. Rogers explained about his speaking focus on his show: he was always speaking to one child. Even though thousands were watching, each of them felt personally reached. You do that. I’ve been frustrated by having loud music drone on in a video called “clean with me.” If I wanted to clean to music I’d put on what I like. You feel like a friend, and I like it when you say that someone still watching is your bff. I am 66 and just retired in April. No one ever explained the nuances of differing brain capabilities like you have, and I see myself in some of your explanations. I’ve been struggling with my home and you’re really helping me to ease open the door and get a bit done. Thank you so much, and God bless you. With thanksgiving, Katharine

You're just so lovely, remi! Thanks for the pep talk!🥰😍💖💖💖 I did want to share an analogy that was a game changer for me. Someone explained that adhd brains love projects. So start viewing tasks as projects. She was watching men build an addition on her house. She noticed that every day they did the same thing. Gathered materials, did the thing for the day, and then an hour before they had to leave cleaned up the job site so it would be ready to go for the next step tomorrow. I started doing this with cooking 🍳 and it worked so well that I started doing it with other chores around my house! Got the stuff needed for the task, did the thing, and then cleaned up at the end. So I didn't have to clear the way the next time I came back to do the thing again. Bc if I don't, I won't do the thing! And eating is kind of important. 😂

I love watching your videos while I'm cleaning or working out. It's like we're having a chat and I'm listening to a close friend while getting my stuff done at the same time you're getting your things done. Wishing you and yours the very best, you more than deserve it.

I just wanted to let you know that You are helping to save my life. It’s as if you are narrating what I experience and feel. I have felt isolated and hopeless for quite some time. You are helping to change that. And helping my self and my family (bless them) to thrive within this chaos that I have found myself in. Thank you so very much for all that you are and all that you do. Thank you a thousand times every day.

I really liked this video. I've been struggling to add a couple of new habits to my Autopilot Routine and it's a pain - but there really is no better feeling than when you realise you've done that new habit without thinking about it ♥ I like the flow of this method; it's like a spring breeze or cool stream, moving where gravity takes it, gently freshening in its wake.

Your intro…. Clearly you know me. Exact description of what happens to me. Very comforting that obviously I’m not the only one. ❤
