Whitney, you should declutter as much or as little as you want at this stage of your life. You’ll reach the level of minimalism that’s comfortable for you. Never compare yourself, your home, kids or life to anyone else or you’ll always feel like you fall short. Minimalism is never constant. Your level of minimalism will let you know when it’s time to declutter to satisfy yourself. That’s a realism I experienced recently and I’m working toward that level. I already realize that I will have to start over again because I’m not satisfied with this first round. I say all this, not to correct or criticize but just to offer encouragement to you for a realization that’s taken me years to understand and be confident with my goal. After all it’s my house and I do what makes us comfortable.

KZbin suggested your video yesterday for me to watch and I'm already hooked! Last night the baby was in bed for the night just before 7 and my hubby passed out shortly after that, so I spent 3 hours cleaning the kitchen! I did all of the dishes, got all of baby's things ran through the sterilizer, cleaned the counters and swept the floor! When my hubby woke up and saw the kitchen he was blown away! Thanks for the inspo! We're moving in 3 weeks to a bigger house and I need the motivation to clean and pack!

I totally understand the sentimental stuff, that's a hard one. I keep a tote for each child and myself and keep things like there outfits they came home in, milestone keepsakes, It's helped alot with not feeling like I have nothing of them getting older. I am currently pregnant with my 4th and last child and it's been really hard mentally knowing il never have these feelings again 🫤 it's a big life change !

You always do a fabulous job and your declutter series was great, I struggled with whether or not to have another baby but came to realize that as they grow it is a new stage to enjoy and they are still your kids, babies are expensive and I had to realize that dance class and soccer games and whatever sport or enjoyment they get involved in is expensive as well. In order to give them space to decide what they found as a passion was going to cost a bit! Now money wasn't the only reason I stopped at 3 but it was a major part of the decision making. I had to weight my own wants with my other children's needs. Once I came to the decision to stop at 3, I found anticipating the future of my babies and their interests absorbed my time. Spending time with them and watching them evolve is time consuming as well. We think things will remain the same but car pooling to events for the kids and keeping up with their schedules can be exhausting as well. Not having diapers anymore to change was an eye opener and where my time was spent was getting more involved the the 3 I had and their activities. Just a thought to consider, it was my journey and everyone's journey is different.
@whitneypea Жыл бұрын
This is a great perspective and my husband and I have been talking about this a lot! The kids will be doing sports soon, we want to travel & take the kids to Disney in a couple years, and having another baby just prolongs those things for us. And of course takes attention away from the other kids. I think I just need to enjoy Maddie as much as possible & I’ll be okay in time! I also just don’t think my body can do another c section, the recover, the post partum period, breastfeeding, diapers, etc. it’s a lot & im trying to keep that in the back of my mind! I think I just need to come to peace with being done 🤍 and also find myself again, I think I’ve become so absorbed in motherhood, idk what makes me happy or “me” anymore so maybe I’ll feel better once I take a little time for myself!

I have been slowly decluttering since my last move in mid 2020, but it's picked up a little since I remembered I have to move again this May. I'm so glad I took it slow, both because I don't have time to go all out (full time grad student) and because it's let me really intentionally evaluate what I do and don't need, and shift my mindset and stop buying stuff. Now (non grocery) items sit on a list for at least a month before I buy them, which has nearly eliminated the incoming stream of future clutter. I still buy th8ngs, but so much less. And i have "time" to look for things sec9ndhand. Like i just got a spin bike for $70 9n facebook marketplace instead of impulse buying a new one. That one change has been so helpful, since even without decluttering I'm moving things out as they wear out, and not getting new stuff unless I actually need them

I love that! I’m trying to be more mindful of impulse buying myself! Thank you for sharing ☺️

I have a Steam Shot and love it especially for tiny spaces. I agree with you about minimalism. I am great at getting rid of alot of stuff but the sentimental stuff is hard! My kids are in their early 20's now so it's easier to get rid of things. Also I feel like all we hear about is minimalism and hoarding. There is an in between! I feel like I'm in that category. I keep the stuff I love but I don't hoard anything either!

Yes I feel like I’m more in between myself! For now I’m just embracing all the toys & clutter because I know someday it won’t exist!

I love when you talked about not being ready to let some things go and becoming a minimalist. I don't see anything wrong with this. Not everyone is the same and that's what makes each of us so wonderful. I believe it is great to declutter, minimize, and organize; however, I do not believe everyone should be a minimalist. For some, it is simply not mentally healthy for them and for some it is, abd that is perfectly alright. I absolutely love organizing and decluttering; however, I say I am a minimizer NOT a minimalist. While decluttering and minimizing helps my mental health and helps make me happier and things go easier, I will always have things on my counter, on shelves, etc and that is perfectly OK. As long as you are down to where you are controlling your things and they are not controlling you, then you are exactly where you need to be. Hang in their hun and stay positive. You are doing the best for you and your family and that is all that matters. Every family is different and you know yours better than enyone else. Don't be too hard on yourself. You are an incredible influence and encouragement to everyone who watches your channel.
