Virtual Desktop still edges this option out for me. With a 5Ghz router, you can wirelessly display your desktop with unreal resolution up to 120fps. The small lag you feel when using HDMI link I'd say is maybe doubled when using Virtual Desktop, but I still think it's negligible in most cases. Excellent video! I just got the new iPhone 16 Pro and it finally has video out over usb C. This is another great way to walk around with a great video signal for the Link. I'm hoping Meta let's other apps use the HDMI link; Bigscreen or Virtual Desktop could have some amazing implementations.

Sure an HDMI adapter takes away the encoding performance hit virtual desktop has. . Problem is in the real world, using this exact HDMI capture card with the quest 3 creates roughly a 60ms lag. Virtual desktop is roughly 40ms in h.264 and 50ms in h.265. Plus....id argue it looks better in VD. It's not the hagabis capture card in the video. Connected to my laptop and set at 200mbps, it looks great! The lag is closer to 40ms. Connected to the quest 3, it looks closer to 15-20mbps.

If you get XReal Air 2 Ultras, and the regular BEAM device, you can keep the image locked in place and even walk away from it and come back it'll stay where you locked it. And you can charge both the BEAM and your device (ROG) with a splitter that passes DisplayPort ALT and power. 330" simulated screen size close or far away that stays there whether you go to the bathroom or not, and can use high resolution and refresh. Please correct me if I'm wrong, so if I use Hagibis silver adapter in order to have steam deck on quest 3 I need usb c to hdmi cable and hdmi connects to Hagibis. Same with ps5 hdmi-hdmi cable to capture card and capture card to quest 3. I just want to make sure I can use this to play deck and ps5 on quest. I don't understand why one Hagibis has female and white Hagibis has male. Thanks for the video!
@DavidAddisАй бұрын
Yes, that's correct. For Steam Deck, you could also use the "one cable solution", but if you want it to work with ps5 as well, your solution is better. The white cable with a male HDMI was for use with the Switch. It connects to the Switch with its usb-c end, and has a handy HDMI cable for plugging into your TV/capture card.

@DavidAddis25 күн бұрын
Have you definitely provided some power to your Switch? It only uses the dock for video if it has (enough) usb-c power input as well. If that's not it, then I'm afraid the Switch is not compatible with every usb-c dongle, so you might need a different adaptor for that part.

been playing flatscreen games on big screens via virtual desktop already, i'd love it if the HDMI App was reliable but in my experience (maybe its my capture card or the USB A to USB C cable) i get very low frame rate compared to VD which is why for now i stick to not using HDMI although i'd prefer it. If going for tethered HDMI though, i'd prefer a solution that charges the quest and (if handheld device is on the other side) the mobile device (obviously not needed on tower pc) will look into that in the near future for sure but playing remotely tetherless is already awesome as well.

@@Rockysbeats Hi, I'm sorry, I slightly misunderstood your first question. For some reason, I thought you meant charge the Ally (using its second usb-c port on the Ally X), which is an option for charging the source device (but not the headset). It is possible to charge the headset and use an HDMI capture card at the same time using the dongle I show at 6:18. You'll need a usb-c charger to plug into it. Now I suppose it gets interesting if you plug that dongle into the headset - can you add a second cable from the Ally X to the dongle to provide power as well? So the Ally X charges the headset? That, I haven't tried, but I could give it a go this evening if that's what you want to find out. It'll probably come down to the negotiation between the two devices, and which thinks it's the 'host'. My gut feeling is that it won't charge, but I'd have to try it to be sure.

I would assume that any way to throw HDMI/DP signal to the device would work, but overall it does sound really enticing. Quest 3 is a great device for VR and AR and I am glad that it supports so many use-cases, on which some way more expensive devices lack. I am mostly using it for wireless VR gaming and I assume that more and more options are to come - but sheer idea of using Quest as an output device for a console does sound at least interesting - it definitely could work as more private way of playing games, not allowing anyone to backseat you, or play game on console while your TV is occupied by someone else. I see lots of possibilities in this regard.
