Meta/Systematic Analysis in Spine Surgery

Spine ailments are common causes of lost productivity and diminished health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in the United States. Assessing the clinical benefit and value of spine care has been the focus of many clinical studies of varying levels of evidence. Experts for this webinar will share evidenced-based medicine (EBM) that is care informed by conscientious use of evidence. Meta-analysis and Systematic Review are two methods to compile and compare results from various clinical studies to determine overall trends and effects.

• Define the tenets of evidence-based medicine and its importance in spine care
• Recognize the hierarchy of evidence, study designs, and assessing study validity especially as it pertains to randomized-controlled trials.
• Identify/interpret common statistical methods for performing meta-analysis and systematic review.
